About me and my therapy practice
Clients tell me they feel safe with me, experiencing me as someone warm and calming, but also challenging when appropriate. Honest but respectful, with patience and a strong focus on helping you to find your own resources and sometimes that takes time.
You are not expected to attend a minimum number of sessions, nor will I put a limit on how many you can have, we will discuss your expectations and how much time you think you will want me to keep the space open for you.
Offering a talking therapy, trained integratively which means I am not limited to working one way, recognising the diversity within our society and between individuals.
Offering online or face to face sessions providing flexibility for when the demands of life make it difficult to attend in person but you do not want to miss your session. For some, online is preferable when dealing with anxiety related issues and for others face to face feels more connected and therefore preferable where possible.
Fortnightly sessions are possible, but always recommend you have weekly sessions initially. Having said this, there is a reality to the fact, financially it can be difficult to factor in a weekly expenditure in addition to your regular outgoings, so let's have a chat about it and see what works best for you.
Able to offer a blend of modalities tailored to each individual and their needs. The goal is to establish what you want from counselling and to work alongside you to achieve it. You may not feel like the expert, but when we first meet, you bring the knowledge about you and what you are struggling with, I bring with me the knowledge gained from training and experience, neither of us can achieve change for you without the other.
Historically, clients have been diverse in gender, age, culture, creed, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical and learning ability.
Worked with people diagnosed with ADHD and Autism and successfully referred clients who benefitted from having an assessment for ADHD/Autism.
Practice description
Offering warmth and experience gained working with issues such as, but not limited to, trauma, childhood trauma including abuse, low self-esteem, self-harm, depression, anxiety, psychosomatic illness and pain, bereavement and loss. I have felt privileged to have been entrusted to help so many people to regain control over their mental, emotional and physical well being over the last 13 years.
What I bring is a toolbox full of experience gained working with lots of different clients and also through training and continued professional development. With additional learning in helping adoptees and anger management, self-harm and trauma informed counselling to name a few.
People come to me mostly for issues connected with historical sexual abuse, sexual assault, mental and emotional abuse. I see people with a range of anxiety presentations, depression, suicidal ideation, self-harm both historical and current. Bereavement suffered in childhood historically but also in adulthood and neurodiversity previously referred to as ADHD and Autism, including advice regarding whether someone may benefit from an assessment.
My counselling room is separate from my house and also separate from my garden, accessed through a side gate, along a passageway. Alternatively, if you prefer, I offer online sessions over zoom, WhatsApp or FaceTime.
My approach is to find ways to Empower you, find your own strength and solutions. This often means giving you the space to talk about things you may otherwise not have the opportunity to talk about.
Sometimes, my role is to help you make connections about why you repeat behaviour patterns you want to change. Identifying the associated emotions and processing them to help you find different perspectives, and therefore make the changes you are looking for.
Other times I am the person to whom you tell the story you have never told another person, listening without judgement and keeping the space safe for you to do so.
My first session
Your first session is an opportunity for us to meet and find out if we would be a good fit for a counselling relationship.
You will have time to ask questions if you want to and to tell me what you want me to know about your situation.
We will also make time for discussing the details relating to practical arrangements.
If you are a dog lover, and you tell me ahead of the session, you can meet Poppy, unusually good at promoting a sense of calm considering her excitable breed. She is a cocker spaniel with a lovely nature and does already help some clients with anxiety, to relax and be able to speak more freely.
This first session is offered at a reduced rate, £45, because I understand you may want to see a few different counsellors before making a decision about who would be right for you.
You are not under any obligation to commit to further sessions if you decide to meet me for this initial session and I am keen at every step along the way to encourage you to think about what feels right to you. NB: You are also not under any obligation to continue in therapy when you reach a point where you feel it is time to end, either temporarily or permanently.

About me and my therapy practice
I have a level 6 (CBCT Ltd) Certificate in Counselling Supervision, Accredited by OCN London.
Supervising is quite different from working therapeutically with clients and brings a new dimension to my working life which I enjoy very much.
I offer a good historical bank of knowledge, helping other counsellors with their client work with the emphasis on us working together to work out how to best support and progress the work with clients.
My Supervision practice is informed by the Íø±¬ÃÅ Ethical Guidance and the 7 Eyed model of Supervision, I am also registered with the NCPS.
As an Integrative Counsellor, initially trained in Psychodynamic Counselling, consideration of unconscious processes is ever present in the work but I also enjoy using CBT techniques, gestalt and creative therapy.
My approach: We are two professionals working to a common purpose in service of the client. You are key to this process and I will pay attention to what is going on for you in support of you and your practice.
There is an educational aspect to supervision for those newly qualified as counsellors and student counsellors. Those who've been in practice a while would also benefit, as have I, because keeping an open mind for us to learn mutually is also a part of what supervision can offer.
Challenging where it might further growth, we will work together discovering different ways of thinking to mobilise client work from fresh perspectives.
I actively encourage you to give me feedback, the more open we can be in this professional space, the more we will enrich the experience, enhancing opportunities for learning and growth which is always with your clients in mind.
If this sounds like the way you would like to experience supervision, please send me an initial enquiry and we can go from there.

My first session
Much like Counselling, our first session is all about finding out what you are looking for and what I can offer.
Central to our work together is whether you feel comfortable working with me and vice versa.
I am happy to see supervisees twice a month where requested, for students this might mean 45 minutes or an hour twice a month depending on how many clients you are seeing.
Qualified counsellors with other supervision in place can request an hour a month or an hour and a half, whatever the need is in terms of the client load you have.
Concessionary rates for students are also possible.
You can use the first session to ask me how I work, what you can expect in sessions and whether I have experience relevant to your work and the clients you see.
You might also want to share with me how you work with clients and your preferences regarding how you want to work in supervision.
Exploring what our mutual expectations are for a supervisory relationship is also something we can talk about and if you have previous experience of supervisory relationships, what was helpful and perhaps what you did not find so helpful.
Supervision can be such a rich experience, my aim is to work with you to help you get the most out of it for yourself and for your clients.
I am told by my current supervisees, I am warm, kind and non-judgemental but they would also say I am honest and will challenge your thinking when it feels appropriate. I think what they mean is I have a balanced approach to supervision.
