About me and my therapy practice

Íø±¬ÃÅ

I am a fully qualified and highly experienced therapist offering a safe, calm and confidential space for you to talk .

I have many years experience working with people around a wide range of presenting issues including anxiety, feeling sad/depression, relationship/family difficulties, trauma, low self esteem, identity.

As a therapist, my starting point is a belief we all have the contents to become our fulfilled selves.

As a psychodynamic therapist, I also believe that in response to adverse childhood experience we can set up unhelpful patterns of being and relating, which we continue into adult life, often unconsciously.

By creating a space in therapy to explore and understand this, we can develop the capacity to relate to our personal experiences, memories, feelings, beliefs and relationships in a more reflective yet active way, leading to greater awareness, self-acceptance and the possibility of positive and lasting change.

I have completed a rigorous 5 year professional training at WPF Therapy, one of the leading academic and clinical institutions for psychotherapy in the UK and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy accredited by Roehampton University.

I am an accredited member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy,  registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and a professional member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy & Counselling and uphold, promote and work within the strict codes of ethics of these organisations.

I am committed to continuing professional development around emerging issues in the field in order to deepen my understanding and inform my clinical practice.

I have experience of working with men and women from a diverse range of backgrounds in terms of age, sexual orientation, ethnicity & cultural background.

My first session

Íø±¬ÃÅ

Beginning therapy can be one of the most positive steps we ever take.

I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation after which if you would like, we would agree to meet for a more in-depth face-to-face/on screen consultation.

Lasting around 1 hour, the inital consultation is a safe, confidential space for you to tell me about yourself, why you may be seeking therapy as well as an opportunity for you to get a sense as to whether you would feel comfortable working with me going forward.

If you decide you would like to start therapy with me, we would agree an arrangement based around your individual therapeutic needs.

I usually suggest an open-ended therapy arrangement where you would come for as long as you wanted or needed to and which allows time for issues to come to consciousness and be worked on in-depth.

Time limited therapy arrangements are usually offered over 12 sessions and are helpful if you would like to work with a specific focus.

Therapy sessions take place at an agreed mutually convenient time every week lasting for 50 minutes .

About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified and highly experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist. I offer a safe, calm, and non-judgemental space to talk.

As a psychodynamic psychotherapist I believe the underlying causes of our emotional distress in the present, often lie in the past. In response to difficult and/or painful experience in early life we can unconsciously develop unhelpful patterns of behaviour 'coping mechanisms', destructive ways of being and relating which we continue into adulthood and which prevent us from becoming our authentic fulfilled selves.

By creating a space in therapy to explore and understand this, we can develop the capacity to relate to our personal narrative, our experiences, memories, relationships, feelings and beliefs in a more reflective yet active way, leading to greater awareness, self-acceptance and the possibility of lasting, positive change.

I have completed a rigorous 5 year professional training at WPF Therapy, one of the leading academic and clinical institutions for psychotherapy in the UK and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy accredited by Roehampton University.

I am commited to ongoing professional development.

I am experienced in working with people around a wide range of issues which include: anxiety and stress including panic attacks, feeling sad/depression, relationship and family issues, bereavement and loss, trauma, abuse/sexual abuse including adult survivors of childhood abuse, work stress, stagnation, low self esteem and identity struggles.

I also have an interest in the emotional challenges of pregnancy, fertility, infant loss, birth trauma and parenthood.

I am currently working in private practice and have previously worked as a clinical assessor in the charitable sector.

I have experience of working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds in terms of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity & cultural background.

My first session

Beginning therapy can be one of the most positive steps we ever take.

I charge a set fee of £95 for a 1 hour initial consultation.

At an initial consultation you can tell me about yourself and what is making you think about therapy now.

I will probably be interested to hear about your childhood and family history, your current relationships, if you have had previous therapy and whether/what you found helpful about it.

You can ask me questions and get a sense as to how I work and whether you would feel comfortable working with me going forward.

I usually suggest taking a bit of space following the initial consultation so you can think about how it has been talking with me and I can think about what might be helpful in terms of your individual therapeutic needs.

At a follow-up appointment I will let you know what I think might be helpful for you in terms of a therapy arrangement going forward and you can think about this and let me know if you would like to take this up.
