My current availability to see clients in my Private Practice is on a Monday and Wednesday when I can provide either remote sessions or face to face (client's house or place of work) depending on location. On Thursdays, I can provide face to face sessions at Heswall Hills Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice
About me and my therapy practice
I am a fully qualified and experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT), Accredited Person Centred Counsellor with the Íø±¬ÃÅ and trained in Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is an intervention to help people process traumatic memories that are still impacting significantly on their day to day life.
I have worked in the NHS since 2010 and more recently in private practice, where I have been privileged to support adults, who have presented with a wide range of mental and physical health difficulties including Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Health Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Trauma, Eating Disorders, Loss, Self Esteem, Adjustment Disorder, Depression, Self Harm and Long Term Health conditions.
My therapeutic approach is guided by your individual needs. There are times in our life when we struggle to feel connected to people and the world around us. This may be as a result of events in your life that have triggered your threat response to be on high alert, such as childhood traumas, including abuse, neglect, bullying, health problems, family separation, loss. It may also be due to events in adulthood, such as relationship break downs, redundancy, personal injury, workplace bullying, bereavement, or the impact of the pandemic.
My aim is to provide a warm and friendly approach, without judgment, to help you identify the causes of whatever you are struggling with and then to offer a tailor made approach, based on your needs, to enable you to find some peace and contentment within yourself.
Practice description
I provide short, or long term therapy, depending on what you hope to achieve from your sessions. The sessions can either be held remotely (telephone or video sessions), or face to face.
Within Person Centred Counselling, you will have the space to gain a greater awareness of how and why you may be struggling to manage your emotions, as a result of specific difficulties occurring in your life. I will respect you as a unique human being and work with you to bring about the changes you want to make within yourself and your life.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help you to identify how life events have impacted on the way you perceive yourself, others and the world, which may be resulting in symptoms of depression and anxiety. In turn, you may now be avoiding situations for fear of being judged, or worrying that something bad is going to happen. You may then find yourself in a vicious cycle that you are stuck in. Through greater awareness of what is maintaining your vicious cycle, I can help you gain the confidence to feel more in control of your thoughts and behaviours, which can result in your reversing the vicious cycle.
Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a trauma based intervention that can help you to process trauma memories that are still impacting your life due to flashbacks, intrusive thoughts or images, nightmares and hyper vigilance. The aim of the intervention is to help you to feel more connected to the present and confine your trauma memories to the past.
My first session
I offer an initial 30 minute telephone consultation, free of charge. This will be an opportunity for me to explain how I work, as well as gathering some information, as to what has brought you to seek therapy. You will also have the opportunity to ask me any questions about my work as a therapist.
If we are both happy to proceed with the therapy, I will book you in for your first appointment, at a time that is suitable for you.
