About me and my therapy practice

I’m a person-centred counsellor offering online counselling sessions across the UK and overseas. My approach is straightforward, honest, and focused on helping you find real, lasting change — without jargon or judgement.

I work with adults facing a wide range of issues, including anxiety, trauma, PTSD, depression, relationship challenges, loss, and low self-esteem. I also support clients who feel stuck, burnt out, or unsure where to turn next.

Before becoming a counsellor, I served on the front line in the British Army, which taught me the value of resilience, authenticity, and understanding people from all walks of life. I bring that same grounded approach into my counselling — real-world experience, empathy, and a no-nonsense way of working.

In our sessions, the focus is on you. I’ll listen, challenge when needed, and help you work through what’s holding you back at your own pace. Whether you need a space to offload, make sense of things, or start making changes, I’ll meet you where you are.

I offer video and telephone sessions Monday to Friday, with additional Saturday mornings available for flexibility.

Practice description

At Jack English Counselling, I offer a space that’s honest, supportive, and focused on getting you where you need to be. I believe counselling should be straightforward and practical — a place to talk openly, feel heard, and start building real change.

My sessions are online, held securely by video or phone, making counselling accessible wherever you are in the UK or overseas. You don’t need to travel or fit around rigid schedules — you can talk from the comfort of your own space.

Every client is different, so I don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. I work person-centred, meaning you lead the pace and focus, while I bring the skills and perspective to help you see things more clearly. When needed, I draw on other approaches such as CBT and DBT tools to support your progress.

I work with adults from all backgrounds and have particular experience in trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship difficulties, and men’s mental health. Many of my clients come to me after struggling to connect with traditional counselling styles — they often say they value my direct, down-to-earth way of working.

My goal is to help you understand yourself better, manage what’s in front of you, and take the next steps towards feeling more in control of your life.

My first session

Booking your first session is simple — you can do it directly through my website by choosing the session length (30 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours) and method that suits you best (video or phone).

Your first session is about getting a sense of how we’ll work together and whether my approach feels right for you. There’s no pressure or commitment beyond that — it’s a chance for you to talk openly and see if counselling with me feels like the right fit.

I don’t use formal assessments or long forms — just an honest, straightforward conversation to help you start moving in the right direction.

About me and my therapy practice

As a former front-line war veteran turned person-centred counsellor, I bring a unique combination of life experience and professional expertise to my therapy practice. Holding a BA (Hons) degree in Counselling, I’ve dedicated years to helping adults overcome a range of mental health challenges, including trauma, anxiety, and depression. My work is deeply rooted in empathy, respect, and understanding of each individual’s unique journey.

Having served in the military, I understand first-hand the emotional and psychological toll that life’s toughest challenges can take. I’ve worked extensively with veterans, but my experience spans a diverse range of clients from all backgrounds, helping them navigate personal crises and life transitions. Whether you’re seeking support for stress, mental health issues, or personal growth, I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore your feelings.

As a registered member of the Íø±¬ÃÅ, I adhere to the highest ethical standards, offering a counselling experience that is client-centred and empowering. My approach focuses on you, giving you the space and support needed to find clarity, build resilience, and move forward with confidence.

Through person-centred counselling, my goal is to help you find your own solutions, offering guidance without directing the process. Whether you’re a veteran seeking to unpack past experiences or someone facing everyday challenges, I’m here to support you in achieving mental well-being.

Whatever you’re going through, I’m here to walk alongside you. You don’t have to face it alone.

Practice description

I’m not your stereotypical counsellor. As a former front-line war veteran with a straight-talking approach, I bring a unique perspective to counselling that combines honesty, empathy, and a deep passion for helping others. Life isn’t always easy, and I know this first-hand from my own challenges. That’s why I became a counsellor – to help people find their way through tough times with real, down-to-earth support.

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions, I provide a judgement-free space where you can be yourself. I don’t believe in sugar-coating things, but I do believe in meeting you where you are and working alongside you to help you find your path forward. My approach is person-centred, meaning our sessions focus on you – your thoughts, feelings, and what matters most to you.

I offer flexible counselling options to suit your needs. You can choose from:

• Online sessions, if you prefer the convenience of meeting from home.

• In-person counselling, if you prefer face-to-face interaction.

• Walk and talk therapy, for those who feel more comfortable in an outdoor setting.

• Telephone sessions, for when privacy or comfort is a priority.

• Text-based counselling, if you find it easier to express yourself through writing.

As a Íø±¬ÃÅ member, I follow strict ethical guidelines to ensure every client feels safe, supported, and heard. My practice is all about empowering you to take control of your journey, with no judgement and no agenda other than helping you get where you want to be.

My military background gives me a strong foundation in resilience, discipline, and understanding the complexities of mental health. Whether you’re a veteran, a professional, or someone seeking support, I provide the tools you need to work through whatever you’re facing.

If you’re looking for a counsellor who won’t just listen but will work with you to overcome your challenges, I’m here. You don’t have to face life’s struggles alone – let’s tackle them together.
