About me and my therapy practice
I work with adults 18+.
I am an experienced and accredited Integrative Counselling Psychotherapist. I have a first-class Degree in Rehabilitation Studies and a Post Graduate Diploma with merit in Integrative Psychotherapy completed in 2013.I also hold an Online Therapy Specialist qualification incorporating both online and telephone counselling completed in 2017.
My background prior to re training as a Counselling Psychotherapist was as a Senior Ward sister in the NHS and teaching roles within Secondary and further Education.
As an Integrative Counselling Psychotherapist, I trained in a number of different therapeutic approaches enabling me to offer individualised strategies within my counselling practice.
For example, a client may come to counselling experiencing anxiety which may then reveal other underlying difficulties such as sleep disturbance or negative thought patterns. As an Integrative counsellor, I am able to adapt strategies and offer my clients therapeutic approaches relevant to their needs.
To explain this a little more, below are some of the therapeutic approaches I may integrate in my practice.
Psychodynamic Therapy explores how past experiences may have impacted on present difficulties. Cognitive reframing is a structured approach which enables a person to reframe unhelpful thought patterns. Interpersonal Therapy focuses on the impact of problematic patterns of relating which may result in communication difficulties, conflict avoidance or difficulty implementing boundaries. Psychoeducation can be helpful in explaining how anxiety and the worry cycle are triggered and we can then develop strategies to minimise anxiety and interrupt the worry cycle.
Each person is unique with individual stressors. As an Integrative counsellor, I can offer my clients relevant therapeutic approaches and strategies to enable them to move forward in their lives in a more comfortable way.
Practice description
I find my work as a counsellor extremely rewarding. It is important to me that I deliver to the highest standard for my clients through offering them a confidential and supportive therapeutic space where they can be heard. I bring myself to sessions and I would describe myself as genuine, warm, non-judgemental and easy to talk to. I have a good knowledge base which I continue to strengthen through Professional development.
My client’s wellbeing lies at the heart of my counselling practice. I work. collaboratively with my clients developing a plan of how we might work together, incorporating goals that are aligned to their desired outcomes and which are reviewed regularly.
Nonetheless counselling is by its’ nature fluid. Additional emotional issues may come up during or between sessions in which case we can work with the issue which is the most pressing for my client at that time. Regular checking in with my clients is integral to my practice - at the beginning of each session where I can offer recap, guidance or be led by them and at the end of each counselling session. Working together we can develop the tools to empower change and so move forward in a more comfortable way..
Working face to face online, or over the telephone allows you the flexibility to choose the environment for your session that is most convenient and comfortable for yourself. There may be a room you can use at your place of work or it may be at home or in the garden or out walking. Additionally, without travelling time a convenient session may be easier to arrange
Considering counselling may bring up some discomfort or anxiety which is perfectly normal. I offer a free 20 minute no obligation telephone call where you can ask any questions or clarify any issues you are unclear about so do feel free to contact me and we can have a chat,
My first session
In our first session, together we will verbally complete any required information and complete a brief assessment together to identify any difficulties you may be experiencing. This allows us to identify areas needing attention and develop appropriate interventions and goals to work on in our sessions.
Our first session sets out how we may work together in agreement with yourself I will briefly describe how we can begin our sessions together, sharing strategies that may be helpful to enhance your wellbeing. I will then check in with yourself for your feedback. If you agree, we can begin to explore an issue of your choosing.
As the first session includes completion of documentation it may be necessary to continue session 1 into session2, however I will guide you in this to ensure you are emotionally comfortable at the end of session
