About me and my therapy practice

I am an highly experienced, Íø±¬ÃÅ accredited counsellor that has worked in mental health for over 16 years and for the last 12 years I have worked as a counsellor in the NHS & private practice. I offer both short term and long-term therapy in person and online. I also provide couples counselling too.

I am a qualified and accredited integrative therapist. Being an integrative therapist enables me to use elements of different theoretical modals to provide you with the therapy that is tailored to you and your needs.

Key to my way of working is the Person-centred approach. This is one of the most well-known, clinically proven forms of therapy. Working in this modal puts you, the client at the heart of the therapy. The emphasis is looking at you as an individual rather than a depersonalized collection of ‘diagnostic’ ‘symptoms’.

Alongside the Person-centred approach, I also draw from Existential therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, and elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). These other models can be helpful in exploring our place in the world, what choices we can make about life, looking at our childhood, what might be unconsciously impacting our lives and looking at some practical ways of helping our mental health.

Due to the level of my experience, I am also a qualified clinical supervisor, supervising other therapists in their practice. I work with many therapists in the NHS and private practice, helping therapists develop their skills, alongside ensuring safe, ethical therapy is being provided.

Alongside my work as a therapist & supervisor, I have an active interest in men’s mental health. I advocate change of attitudes to men’s mental health and regularly create content for my social media project: Get a Grip- Men’s Mental Health. Practice description

I provide a safe, confidential, professional environment for clients to talk through their different issues. My vast experience enables me to offer help to clients struggling with various issues.

Anxiety is one of the key areas I help clients with. Feeling nervous, on edge, irritable, restless, and having physical sensations such as a tight chest, tiredness and heart pounding are all signs of being anxious. At times anxiety can be hard to understand and can be overwhelming. Working together, I can help you make sense of what’s happening and look at resetting the balance.

Having a lack of motivation, feeling stuck and hopeless, feeling low, guilty, being tearful, and thinking negative things about yourself are all symptoms of depression. Like anxiety, depression is one of the biggest issues I help people with.  I offer a professional space where I can help you to talk through how you’re feeling and work on some strategies to help you through the stuckness of depression.

Often linked with anxiety & depression is low self-esteem. The counselling I offer can help you gain a better understanding of where these issues come from & importantly how to tackle them moving forward.

ADHD and ASD are other major areas that I help clients with. My approach and philosophy to counselling is to truly understand your experience of the world. I can help you make changes, develop strategies to manage daily life, or help you gain more acceptance and confidence in what you bring to the world as a neurodivergent person.

I also offer couples counselling . Having problems in your relationship can be a difficult and painful experience. I provide a space to discuss a couples relationship in a safe and supportive environment. I work with clients to look at ways they can enhance their relationship and to work through any issues they might be having.

My first session

I offer a 15-20min free consultation where I will ask you some information about your mental health and what you would like some help with. There will be no pressure to talk about things you don't want to discuss, we will work together in formulating how therapy with myself might help you best.

It can often feel daunting starting therapy, especially if this is your first experience of anything like this. Having had therapy myself I know how this feels and understand the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment to talk things through.

If you want to book one or two sessions and see how you feel that’s fine, there’s no pressure to commit to lots of sessions. In some ways this is the hardest part of the therapy journey, but why not take that first step and let’s look at making some positive changes in your life.

Having therapy with a experienced and qualified professional is important, and knowing your therapists qualifications can be helpful in making a decision around who to approach for therapy. Therefore, here's a list of my core qualifications, I also attend regular CPD events.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified supervisor working with therapists both in the NHS and private practice. I have a Diploma in Clinical Supervision from The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute. This rigorous training has given me the skills to help therapists work through all aspects of their clinical work including complex issues such as ethical dilemmas and safeguarding and risk concerns.

My approach to supervision is similar to that of my work as a therapist. I offer therapists a safe place to explore their client work without judgement. I am currently employed to provide supervision to 10 therapists working in IAPT and provide supervision to several therapists working in private practice. Alongside standard supervision, I have also provided supervision of supervision.
