I work Monday to Thursday, including early evening sessions and most bank holidays. I don't work at weekends.
About me and my therapy practice
I work with individual adults who are finding it difficult to cope with the challenges life presents. For some it is anxiety and stress, for some it's relationship issues, including loss and bereavement, for some it may be depression or sadness. I also work with people who are struggling in their work or career. Often it's a combination of things. Sometimes my clients feel overwhelmed and seek opportunity to offload, sometimes they want to dig deeper in order to gain some insight into their lives with a view to making changes. I offer individual and relationship counselling. I'm an experienced counsellor and I also work as a supervisor to other counsellors.
I offer individual face to face and remote (telephone, Skype, WhatsApp, Zoom) counselling.
Face to face counselling at my home in Finchley Central. There is local street parking and I'm a 5 - 7 minute walk from the tube station.
Practice description
My approach is to listen carefully in a non-judgemental way, to understand you, and to help you to find ways to be happier and more satisfied. It's not my style to sit quietly and nod, but to be part of the process as you figure things out and make good decisions for yourself. I hope you will find me accepting, engaging, and challenging where appropriate.
Taking the decision to seek counselling can be a big step. Whatever it is that has brought you to this webpage, I'll be pleased to have the opportunity to hear your story, concerns and hopes. I offer an initial free, no obligation, telephone call that will hopefully give you a sense of what I'm like to be with. Please note I do not work at weekends.
My first session
I offer an initial telephone conversation at no charge. This is an opportunity for you to let me know what you would like from counselling, and to ask any questions you might have. It's also a chance for us to talk about how we would want to work together. This will hopefully enable us both to decide if we are right to work with each other, and I would then leave you to think about it and decide if you would like to work with me.
This telephone conversation will typically last around 15 - 20 minutes.

About me and my therapy practice
I see the relationship between supervisor and supervisee as that of colleagues. We travel along the road together, looking at the issues you bring with curiosity and creativity.
I believe there are three key components to good clinical supervision. I aim:
to help my supervisee develop their skills and capabilities as a therapist
to help my supervisee to work safely and within the ethical framework of their professional body
to encourage and support my supervisee so that they feel confident about themselves and their work.
I’ve had good and poor supervisors. The good ones allowed me to feel like a good counsellor, the poor ones left me feeling as if I was constantly getting it wrong. They also meant I felt reluctant to take cases to them, afraid to share difficult issues in case I was criticised.
Being a therapist is hard. I’ve never ended a session thinking I did it perfectly. That’s impossible. My job as a supervisor is to appreciate how hard it is, and allow you to feel safe to share your worries about the work.
That doesn’t mean I won’t challenge you. I will when I need to, but I’ll try to do it in a way that doesn’t damage your confidence. I’ll do it from the perspective of trust and belief in you as a therapist.
