About me and my therapy practice
I am a highly qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor with 20 years of practice experience from voluntary placements, the NHS and private practice. I’m experienced with working with a huge range of issues and people from diverse backgrounds and differing contexts.
People come to therapy for a wide variety of reasons. My aim is to find out what it is you want from therapy and then to provide you with a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment in which we can try to find what you, personally, are looking for.
All our work together will take place in a professional and confidential environment. I abide by the UKCP Ethical Principles and Code of Professional Conduct.
I’ll explain a little about my practice below but please take a look at my website for a full picture.
Practice description
Training
I completed an extensive academic and experiential training in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at the Minster Centre in London. I am committed to practising with high professional standards. After fulfilling the requirements to be awarded an Advanced Diploma, which qualified me to practise, I continued my training and completed an MA which I was awarded with distinction. Since then I have continued to develop my practice to integrate mindfulness, somatic work, trauma-informed yoga, polyvagal theory and more.

About me and my therapy practice
I am a UKCP registered supervisor offering supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists. With 20 years of practice in the therapist’s chair, I bring depth, perspective, and a genuine commitment to supporting practitioners in their clinical work.
For me, effective supervision is about creating a space safe enough to bring all aspects of your work—the rewarding and the challenging. I aim to encourage confidence, while also welcoming the exploration of our inevitable fallibility. Supervision can be a place to celebrate and understand successes, but also should be able to hold and examine the more complex or demanding cases that all practitioners encounter.
I work with a process model from a supportive position to help therapists navigate difficult material, countertransference, embodied experiences, theory–practice gaps, self-care, and whatever else is most alive in the work on any given day. In such a space, we can gain objectivity, deepen understanding, and strengthen both ourselves and our therapeutic practice.
I enjoy, and have experience of, working with supervisees at many different stages of their careers—from students and therapists setting up their practice to experienced clinicians, lecturers, and post-doctoral practitioners. I truly enjoy sharing my expertise and chewing over the therapeutic process in supervision. Coming from a first career as a musician, I have a particular insight, experience and comfort with working creatively and spontaneously. As an integrative therapist myself, I respect and have knowledge of all schools of psychotherapy and counselling and the process model I work with allows different ways of working to be thought about together.
I offer a free introductory meeting for prospective supervisees. If you would like to discuss working with me, I’d be very glad to hear from you. Please feel free to email me at athena.mat@icloud.com.
