About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to this short introduction to how I work.

Most of us have periods in our life when we feel unsettled, loose direction, or the unexpected happens which can be disturbing; bringing unfamiliar emotions and reactions.

At these times it may be difficult to know what is best for us, how to ‘manage’ our situation or bring about the changes we desire in our life.

I offer a calm and supportive presence for you to explore any issues you bring.

We will work together to empower you to find clarity, and make decisions that will help you to move towards the life you want. I believe that life is a continuous learning curve for all of us and am motivated towards helping clients to achieve personal growth. Counselling is not about changing others, but ourselves; our outlook, how we relate to others including our boundaries, and how to create our best life; it is rewarding, but can be challenging too.

I understand my own nature to be sensitive, empathic, open minded, kind, respectful of & responsive to others needs. In my work I step aside from my own daily thoughts to a place of stillness where I can meet my clients needs.

I believe each of us is unique having our own distinctive mix of beliefs and responses to life’s experiences; we are experts on ourselves & responsible about our choices we make regarding our beliefs and behaviours.

This means there is no ‘best’ therapy suiting everyone so I tailor the work in depth, pace, time scale, & therapeutic approach. By offering a non judgemental, calm presence; attentive listening & inquisitive enquiry I provide a safe space for you to any explore issues you bring & their meaning to you.

I am confident to suggest ways that we may work together often working in a creative way as this can be a gentle but powerful way to unlock ‘stuck’ emotions. Working creatively is not about artistic skills (none are needed!) but using for example, ‘mark making’ on paper, working with clay or sand, in addition to talking therapy.

Practice description

I am a Íø±¬ÃÅ accredited counsellor working in a pluralistic way.

I abide by standards of the Íø±¬ÃÅ Ethical Framework.

I hold current Professional Liability Insurance.

In sessions I will show up as my genuine self, meeting you with honesty, empathy and attentively listen to what you bring; offering a safe place where you can feel heard and seen without judgement. I am grounded and trauma-informed, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches to best meet your needs.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 33 years as a physiotherapist in the NHS, supporting with care and compassion patients of all ages and their families through times of change or trauma from all walks of life. I have now been a qualified counsellor for 14 years, working within the NHS staff support services, Macmillan, and Younger Mind, as well as in private practice.

Outside of work, I’m a mother of three grown-up children and love spending active time outdoors and being creative.
