About me and my therapy practice
I am an Associate Individual & Group Psychotherapist of The Gestalt Centre, London - where I graduated in 1996, and have been continually UKCP registered from 1996 to the present.
In my practice I offer a therapeutic relationship that affirms creative renewal, trauma recovery, integration and wholeness - promoting self-compassion and clarity, safe grounding and embodiment. By affirming the stability and sense of safety needed to emerge from life-stresses and trauma, we can anchor more fully in the present, become better able to relate to and regulate feelings, and identify life / relational needs.
This kind of therapeutic process can help cultivate clarity, self-connection, self-acceptance and creative renewal, as well as greater peace of mind, fulfilment and joy in life. My relational approach is also informed by the work of various clinicians/authors in the fields of attachment, relational neuroscience, and trauma over the last 20-30 years, such as: Janina Fisher, Bessel van der Kolk, Stephen Porges, Bonnie Badenoch, Sue Johnson, Daniel Siegel, Tara Brach, Louis Cozolino, Peter Levine, and Richard Schwartz who developed 'Internal Family Systems' therapy (IFS). I completed a 15 day level 1 IFS training in 2016, to include this perspective in my practice.
Other biography: Former associate tutor, University of Surrey Psychology Dept (2010-2018), where I facilitated personal/professional development groups for Counselling Psychology doctorate students. Past group facilitator/supervisor with the Gestalt Centre London.
Counselling: Counsellor (1990-present). Reg. MÍø±¬ÃÅ. Co-founder (1999) and counsellor (1999-2004) with The Cancer Counselling Trust. Counsellor - CancerBackup charity (1997-1999). Placement bereavement counsellor while in training - Trinity Hospice, Clapham (1990-93).
Practice description
Full practice details are in the practice information sheet that I email to enquirers, and please see the 'first session' section below.
My first session
I first ask clients to complete an initial questionnaire (via email) - to provide relevant background information for possible therapy/counselling, risk assessment/duty of care, and to start to gauge compatibility for working together, and that my training/experience seem a good match for potential therapeutic issues/needs. I'm also happy to meet online for a brief 10-15 min zoom session (or phone call) to answer any other queries you may have about possible sessions, before completing the questionnaire.
The questionnaire also includes GP details and contact consent, without which I’m unable to offer sessions - though I would only propose contacting your GP if it seemed therapeutically relevant, after discussing/agreeing that with you - except in an emergency e.g. to uphold duty of care, or for possible referral to NHS/other services/resources. Full details are on the form.
I also consider suitability for online sessions, and if proceeding I first arrange an initial assessment session (50 mins), where we can further gauge therapeutic needs/issues and compatibility for working together. We can also discuss further what you may wish to explore in therapy/counselling.
If we agree to continue - I arrange a follow-up initial series of 6-8 sessions to begin working together & better assess/clarify needs, with a review at session 5-6 to decide re continuation of sessions (usually on an ongoing weekly basis, with periodic reviews as needed), or to bring sessions to a close, with possible onward referral/resource suggestions.
I also use a GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) form, in order to comply with UK GDPR regulations - the form provides details of client data held, and for clients to provide consent.
