About me
"They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself" - Andy Warhol.
I’m an experienced counsellor working with adults and young people (from age 14). I offer sessions in Oxted, Caterham, and online, supporting a wide range of issues through both short- and long-term therapy.
How I work
I am trained in Humanistic and Person-Centred counselling, which focuses on you as an individual and your personal growth. My approach provides a warm, non-judgemental space where you can explore your feelings, gain insight, and find your own solutions, helping you build confidence, coping skills, and a greater sense of self-understanding.
I know reaching out for support can feel daunting, but it can also be one of the most positive steps you take for yourself.
In-Person and Online Sessions
Counselling doesn’t have to be face-to-face. Online sessions can fit better around busy lives and are just as effective for exploring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Together, we can find new ways to cope, connect, and communicate.
Moving Forward
I’m here to support you at your own pace, helping you explore changes and take steps towards a life that feels more manageable and fulfilling.
Please see some feedback from a recent client:
My first visit to Shan was nerve wracking and I was full of anxiety, both about counselling and the issues I was keeping to myself.
Shan immediately put me at ease and got me talking freely. Our sessions felt like a conversation rather than counselling. There was no judgement, sometimes tears but often laughter. Shan is very personable and open, we established a trusting bond very quickly.
I am now a much better person after a number of sessions and my family will agree. The money paid is a well worth investment that all around me benefit from. It feels like Botox for the soul. Getting me back to my bouncy self.
Practice description
I bring over 17 years of counselling experience, working with both young people and adults across a variety of settings, including GP practices, private schools in the UK and abroad, and youth counselling agencies. I am currently the Counselling Manager for Heads Together, a Surrey-based youth counselling service.
Throughout my career, I have supported clients with a wide range of presenting issues, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, family difficulties, bereavement, and loss in its many forms — from relationship or career changes to loss of identity. I have a particular interest in supporting clients through grief and loss, and have specialised training with the Foundation for Infant Loss.
I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly update my skills through training in areas such as eating disorders, suicide prevention, anxiety, self-harm, and bereavement. This dedication ensures I continue to offer informed, compassionate, and effective support to those I work with.
My first session
The initial appointment is an opportunity for us to meet and get to know each other. It allows me to gather background information and understand what has brought you to therapy, as well as discuss what you hope to achieve through our work together. It’s also a chance for you to see if you feel comfortable working with me — building a trusting and safe relationship is an important first step.
During this session, we can talk about practical arrangements, such as a preferred day and time for weekly sessions. Each person’s needs are different, so the number of sessions will be tailored to you, and we will regularly review progress together.
Life brings stress, disappointments, grief, and change — experiences we normally process with friends, family, or other support networks. Speaking with a trained professional can help you process these emotions, gain insight, and find new ways to move forward.
I’m happy to answer any questions you may have before booking your first session and look forward to hearing from you.
