About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome. I am a person-centred psychotherapist and counsellor, working with adults, children and young people.

Person-centred psychotherapy is a humanistic approach to therapy and places emphasis on a relational way of working. I aim to work alongside my clients and at their pace, with empathy and without judgement. At the centre of my practice is a belief in the possibilities of a safe and collaborative therapeutic relationship where we can speak openly about our life experiences and fully understand who we are and what we would like to change.

I believe that my clients are the experts in their own unique experiences and, by committing to creating an environment where you feel accepted and understood, I trust that we can work as a team to draw on your own strengths and resources to find resolutions and a way forward.

I am also trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and EMDR, which I sometimes integrate into my psychotherapy practice. Importantly, you will be the one to decide if these are helpful for you.

About Me

I have been practicing as a therapist for over 13 years, providing counselling and psychotherapy for adults, children and adolescents in a wide range of settings, including the NHS, schools, charities, specialist services and private practice.

Alongside my private practice, I work as a Consultant Psychotherapist in the NHS and I am also employed as an associate psychotherapist for a specialist trauma service.

Prior to these roles, I trained and worked for several leading children’s mental health charities. I am an experienced school counsellor and have worked in primary and secondary schools providing therapy for children and young people, as well as parents and carers.

Before training to become a psychotherapist and counsellor, I worked for over ten years in the fashion industry. I hold a BA (Hons) in English Literature, and consequently have a keen interest in the concepts of story-telling and narrative within psychotherapy.

Practice description

I work from private and comfortable rooms in the centre of Maldon, Essex. I also work online via Zoom.

Sessions are weekly and last 50 minutes. Please contact me to discuss my fees.

I offer a limited amount of reduced fee sessions to counselling and psychotherapy trainees, healthcare professionals and those on lower incomes. Please do feel free to ask if I have any availability.

I am aware that seeking therapy and choosing a therapist can feel like a daunting task, so I am always happy to answer any questions you may have. I offer a free and confidential 15-minute Zoom consultation to answer any questions and to talk through how therapy might be helpful for you and how we might work together.

As well as being accredited by the Íø±¬ÃÅ, I am a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the Society for Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (SfDBT).

My first session

First sessions lasts for approx 75 minutes and consist of an informal assessment, which is an opportunity for me to get to know you better and to understand some of the difficulties that you are currently facing.

I will spend time talking with you about how I work and we can think together about whether I am the right therapist for you and how we might work together. Importantly, it's also a chance for you to ask questions so that you have a clear idea of what to expect from me, including issues of confidentiality and the boundaries within which I work as a Íø±¬ÃÅ and UKCP registered psychotherapist and counsellor.
