About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I鈥檓 Rachel Leech, a fully qualified counsellor, psychotherapist, and supervisor, with over 20 years experience, based in Buxton, Derbyshire. I offer a warm, calm, and supportive space where you can feel heard, seen, and understood.
You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, unsure of yourself, or struggling with the weight of past experiences. Whatever has brought you here, I offer a safe and non-judgemental place to explore what you need鈥攁t your own pace, in your own way.
I work with both adults and children using an integrative, creative, and client-led approach. Every person is unique, and so is the way we work together.
About Me
I鈥檓 passionate about helping people make sense of what鈥檚 happening in their lives鈥攚hether that means working through deep-rooted trauma or simply finding space to breathe and be yourself.
My professional journey has taken me from schools to hospices to domestic abuse support services, and now into private practice. I currently lead a counselling service at a local hospice and work with a wide range of clients in my private practice.
I believe that therapy is a collaborative process鈥攐ne where you feel supported, empowered, and heard.
I鈥檇 love to hear from you. Whether you're ready to start therapy or just have questions, feel free to reach out.
鈥淪ometimes just talking things through helps us find clarity, strength, and a renewed sense of hope. I鈥檓 here to walk alongside you鈥攚herever your journey begins.鈥
Practice description
How I Work
My approach is integrative, which means I draw from different therapeutic models depending on your needs. These include:
Psychodynamic: exploring how the past influences your present
Humanistic: focusing on self-growth, awareness, and acceptance
Mindfulness: grounding, present-moment techniques
Play & Creative Therapies: especially helpful for children, but often useful for adults too
Transpersonal & Psychosynthesis: exploring meaning, identity, & inner potential
Sessions might include talking therapy, mindfulness, guided visualisation, dream work, journal prompts, creative activities (like art or clay), or CBT-based tools鈥攄epending on what feels right for you.
Importantly, the work is always led by you. You don鈥檛 need to be creative or have any prior experience鈥攋ust a willingness to explore.
What I Can Help With
I offer support with a wide range of issues, including:
Anxiety & panic
Depression & low mood
Childhood trauma or abuse
Domestic abuse (psychological, sexual, or physical)
Bereavement & loss
Low self-confidence or self-worth
Stress & overwhelm
Sleep difficulties
Feeling stuck or disconnected
Sometimes clients come with a clear goal. Other times, it鈥檚 just a feeling that something isn鈥檛 right. Either way, we can explore it together.
Working with Children & Young People
I have specialised training and experience in working with children & young people, including time spent as a primary school counsellor.

About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified and experienced counselling psychotherapist and mindfulness practitioner with over 20 years of experience working with both children and adults.
I currently lead the Children and Young People鈥檚 Counselling Service at a local hospice, where I also hold the role of Safeguarding Officer for Children. Alongside this, I run a thriving private practice from a peaceful therapy centre in Buxton, offering both supervision and counselling on Mondays and Thursdays.
My background includes extensive work with domestic abuse, pre- and post-bereavement grief, anxiety, and trauma.
I have a particular interest in using creative techniques to support deeper therapeutic work 鈥 helping clients to move beyond cognitive defences and connect with inner experiences through imagination, symbolism, and embodied awareness. These creative methods are often valuable in accessing the deeper parts of the self, offering new ways of understanding and healing.
Practice description
As a supervisor, I offer a collaborative, reflective, and supportive space where you can feel safe to explore your work, deepen your skills, and grow both personally and professionally.
I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision, grounded in the Seven-Eyed Model developed by Hawkins and Shohet 鈥 a flexible, integrative framework suitable for working across all modalities.
My approach to supervision is integrative and tailored to each supervisee, drawing on humanistic, creative, and transpersonal perspectives. My initial psychodynamic training adds depth to my understanding of how past experiences can inform present patterns in both therapeutic and supervisory relationships.
I believe supervision should be a nourishing and evolving relationship 鈥 one that offers support, challenge, education, and insight. Whether you鈥檙e newly qualified or an experienced practitioner, I鈥檇 be happy to talk through your needs and see whether we might be a good fit.
Please feel free to get in touch for an informal chat. I also invite you to explore my counselling profile for more information.
