About me and my therapy practice
I am Íø±¬ÃÅ Accredited and a Level 2 Internal Family Systems therapist. I qualified at the Northern Guild of Psychotherapy as a Psychotherapeutic Counseller of Children and Adolescents. I have worked in NHS IAPT, Third Sector agencies such as Cruse Bereavement, BARCA and Primary and Secondary schools as a parent and child therapist. Please note, I do not see children of primary school age. I am Bupa and Axa registered.
It is important to me that you feel accepted and safe with me at what is most likely a vulnerable time and I work at your pace to build a trusting, confidential relationship. I also encourage self-care in the people I see.
You may be at a crossroads in your life, have experienced a life event such as bereavement, redundancy, retirement, family breakdown or be in need of a space to share what you are going through. Maybe you have felt unhappy all of your life and don't know why? These things can be explored safely in therapy to help you understand yourself and to get what you want from life.
My preferred way of working is using the Internal Family Systems model (IFS). IFS is a kind, respectful, deeply healing model which recognises that we all have many different aspects of our personality (or parts) and we all have a self. IFS compassionately explores how these parts work together or (within internal conflicts) against each other. This can bring self-leadership, internal balance and understanding. This model is a trauma release model. I use sand tray, a way to visually make sense of personal situations or feelings. I work collaboratively with you to tailor the work to your needs.
I am a Relational Practitioner and look at how past relationships may be impacting on present relationships to help you gain greater clarity about current situations.
I am currently offering in person sessions or remote sessions on doxy.me, a secure video conferencing platform.
