About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified  therapist, with extensive experience in working with issues such as anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, burnout, relationship issues, work-related stress, loss, and sexual and domestic abuse.

As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to ensure that I meet your individual needs

I have substantial experience of working with diverse communities and welcome clients from different faiths and cultural backgrounds.

Prior to setting up my practice in 2010, I worked for a drug and alcohol agency, providing brief and open-ended psychotherapy to clients struggling with addiction.  I also have extensive experience in working with female victims of sexual and domestic abuse, as well as  people with sight loss and special educational needs.

As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I am guided by a strict code of conduct. This ensures that I work in a professional manner. It also ensures that I regularly participate in professional development to maintain and enhance my professional competency.

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have also completed specialist training with the Foundation for Infant Loss, from which I gained a comprehensive understanding of some of the complexities around abortion, pregnancy and infant loss. In addition, I have a Diploma in Children and Young People's Mental Health which enables me to work with young adults.

I have a fully enhanced DBS registration.

Practice description

I work with a range of therapeutic approaches including Person-centred, Transactional Analysis and Psychodynamic Therapy, integrating them to offer a flexible style for each individual client.

I create a space which is warm and compassionate, where you can feel truly heard and understood. I  listen and hold what is causing your distress, without judgement. I help you to work through those  difficult thoughts and feelings which are holding you back.

For the process to work, a good client-counsellor relationship is crucial. I strive to create a trusting environment where you feel respected and accepted. We work together to figure out what you need, and how those needs are best met. I invite you to explore your feelings, and where appropriate, I may offer you sensitive and supportive challenges to help you to gain new insights into your situation.

This was one client's experience:

"I had therapy sessions with Jenny for approximately a year. I went to Jenny to get support with anxiety that I suffered severely on a daily basis, which included worries that would spiral, catastrophising and panic.

Jenny has a very calm and gentle approach, she would work with me weekly to understand how I was feeling and encourage me to talk about things that were difficult. However this would unlock an understanding in myself that allowed me to change the way I think and feel.

In the year together I have felt a big shift in how I think, and Jenny has armed me with tools to allow me to tackle anxious thoughts and feelings in the moment, as well as tools that help improve my self esteem and see myself in a more confident and comfortable light which I have never felt before.

I am extremely grateful for the work Jenny has done with me, it's been a great experience and I would recommend Jenny to anyone looking to work on similar concerns or issues." (Female, aged 36)
