About me and my therapy practice

I am a child and adolescent therapist helping young people when they face difficulties or challenges. I offer a space to explore these feelings - which can appear in the form of anxiety, anger, withdrawal, overwhelm, sadness and fear. No matter how big or small the problem is, it can be a real concern for the individual and their family.

I know seeking help from someone outside can be daunting but, left unprocessed, these difficulties can impact school, friendships, other family members and lead to more extreme emotional and behavioural problems.

As a qualified child counsellor working with children from five years old to 18, I am also a registered member of the Íø±¬ÃÅ.

I have experience with systemic work – working with young people and their parents, siblings or families alongside.

I re-trained as a therapist after learning first-hand how changes and transitions can impact our well-being and ability to cope. When we understand ourselves, we are more resilient and can establish better connections with those around us.

Practice description

I hold 50-minute sessions, usually weekly, and can offer short term work of six to 12 sessions or long term open-ended work. Sessions can be in person, which I recommend, or online.

I aim to provide a safe and confidential space to explore difficult or worrying feelings through talk and play. For young children, it can be easier to communicate through play, painting, drawing, modelling, puppetry and sand, rather than access their emotions verbally. But creativity can be a very powerful way for anyone to tap into their inner thoughts.

Each session is held at an individual's pace, discussing whatever they want to bring and using whatever materials they are comfortable with. I am an integrative counsellor which means I use whatever theories or methods I feel are relevant to each young person.

I can also work systemically where the whole family meets to explore the history, patterns of relating and present difficulties. This is not looking to blame or judge but instead to facilitate everyone being heard and having a better understanding of each other.

My first session

I offer a free initial 15 minute phone consultation so that I can listen to what is going on and ensure you are comfortable.

This gives you an opportunity to get to know me and ask any questions which concern you.

Before starting therapy with a young person, I would meet with their parents to find out more about the background and reasons for any struggles. This can be a comforting process for parents to be able to let go of concerns and helps to build trust and understanding.
