About me and my therapy practice
Welcome — I’m glad you’re here. I’m Tonya, a gentle, person‑centred counsellor for young people (13+) and adults. If you’re worn out by pressure, replaying old hurts, or managing panic or low mood, You Matter offers a calm, compassionate space where your experience guides the work. I listen without judgment, reflect what I hear, and support you to explore options at a pace that feels right.
Person‑centred practice is at the heart of You Matter. From that foundation I draw on body‑based grounding plus CBT and DBT‑informed skills, choosing and adapting practical strategies to your needs so you gain immediate calming tools and longer‑term coping skills. You Matter is also a space for growth and learning: I take part in regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure safe, high‑quality care.
Specialist areas: early‑life impacts and attachment; complex trauma and CPTSD; nervous‑system dysregulation (panic, hypervigilance, dissociation); emotion regulation and distress tolerance; anxiety and panic disorders; borderline personality patterns and relational difficulties; religious and spiritual harm and recovery; major life changes, identity work and transitions.
Qualifications and safety: Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (Distinction); MÍø±¬ÃÅ 416186; Enhanced DBS; Safeguarding Certificate; Gold Award in Trauma‑Informed Practice. I offer a free 20‑minute initial consultation to see if we’re a good fit.
Practice description
You Matter Counselling provides a sensory‑friendly, Neurodivergent‑aware space to slow down and make steady, practical change. I work with young people (13+) and adults using a gentle, person‑centred approach: I listen without judgment, follow what matters to you, and let you set the pace and priorities.
From that foundation I integrate, practical, evidence‑informed strategies (body‑based grounding, CBT and DBT‑informed skills) tailored to your needs so you gain immediate calming techniques and longer‑term coping skills. Sessions are clear, jargon‑free and focused on what helps you feel safer and more able day to day.

Clear, jargon‑free conversations and between‑session tools to support steady change.
Format and logistics
Online (Google Meet) and sensory‑friendly in‑person sessions near Market Deeping PE6.
Standard sessions 50 minutes; flexible lengths and reduced‑fee trainee slots available on request.
Rooted in lived and clinical experience; focused on real, everyday issues.
My first session
I offer a free 20‑minute initial consultation on Google Meet so you can see if working together would feel right, ask questions, and go over practical details before booking a full session.
The first paid session is usually 50 minutes (we can agree a different length if needed). It’s a gentle, paced check‑in where we will:
Talk about what’s bringing you now and what you want from therapy.
Go over confidentiality, boundaries and any immediate safety concerns.
Ask about access needs and sensory preferences so I can adapt pacing, communication and the room.
Complete a short, friendly progress check — a simple tool we both use to track how things are going and notice change over time.
Try one or two grounding or nervous‑system regulation techniques you can use between sessions.
Make a short, practical plan and agree next steps.
Before your first paid session I normally send a short intake form to save time. Standard session fees apply for paid appointments. Please give 48 hours’ notice for cancellations to avoid being charged.
