About me and my therapy practice

I work from the position that therapy, like life, is all about relationships.

I have found over the years that wanting better relationships is what most often brings people to the therapy chair, whether that's to explore relationships with the people already around them, to work on the kind of relationships they want to build, or to improve the relationship they have with themselves.

And so the way I work is relational: that means we will use our relationship as therapist and client to understand what might be happening for you outside the room, and how to shift things that might not be working.

I trained as an integrative counsellor, which means I am qualified in three different approaches (person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy, more information here: /about-therapy/types-of-therapy/integrative-counselling/). What that practically means for us in the room is that there are lots of different ways that we can work, by blending methods to suit your unique needs. My practice is always LGBTQ+ inclusive and neurodivergent-friendly.

Perhaps you want to dig into the past and explore your relationships there and how they might be affecting things happening now. Perhaps you'd rather work in the present, looking at your thoughts and behaviour and how these can change.

However we decide to work, I can offer you a dedicated space where you will be really listened to and understood, as you share and explore your life.

Practice description

I offer both short and long-term work, in a compassionate, non-judgmental and safe place.

Short term therapy (six to 16 sessions) works best when there is a particular issue to explore and a set goal you would like to work towards. We can get a lot done in the short term, even just six sessions, but the limited time frame does mean we can’t explore everything. Short term work can also be really useful for getting a taste of what therapy is like, possibly leading to deeper therapeutic work in future.

Long-term work is usually open-ended and it can be of any length that you need. It is an opportunity to commit to exploring and thinking more deeply about your life. We will discuss our progress as we go and consider what might feel like the right time to end.

You don’t need to have a firm answer about whether you’d like short or long term work before we begin, we can discuss it in the first session.

I offer sessions face to face, online, on the phone, or a combination of these, so you can choose whatever works best for you.

I also offer a free 15-minute video or phone consultation so I can get a sense of what's happening in your life right now and what you'd like to achieve in therapy, and you can get a sense of whether I might be someone you'd like to form that really important therapeutic relationship with.
