About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative psychotherapist offering face-to-face therapy from rooms in Putney, London (SW15).
People come to therapy for many different reasons: feeling overwhelmed or stuck; relationship difficulties; going through something particularly challenging; or simply wanting to understand themselves better. Whatever is bringing you here, therapy can offer a space to pause and reflect.
My approach to therapy is based on the understanding that who we are today - our outlook on life, our hopes and dreams, the relationships we have or don’t have, our ideas and beliefs about ourselves and others - is deeply influenced by our earliest experiences. And when difficulties arise as adults, they often echo or activate patterns that were formed long before we were aware of them.
Modern life can be extremely demanding; relationships, work, families, money, health and social challenges, or even the simple act of daily living can all feel overwhelming. I believe that how we cope with these challenges is shaped by both our present circumstances, and our past experiences, including those we might not be fully aware of.
In therapy, we can take the time to slow down and explore where you are now, and how your past and present experiences interact. Sometimes gaining this insight brings relief in itself; at other times it opens the door to change. As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw on different psychological approaches to work in a way that fits you and your goals.
I have an MA in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy (University of Roehampton) and an MA in Natural Sciences; Experimental Psychology (University of Cambridge).
In addition to my private practice, I have experience of working in an NHS GP practice and in the charity sector. Before training as a psychotherapist I worked for more than 10 years in a global consulting firm.
Practice description
I offer individual, in-person, short-term and long-term therapy but there’s no need to decide what you want before you start. This is something we can discuss together in the first couple of sessions.
Short-term therapy (typically 6-16 sessions) can be useful when you want to focus on a particular concern or a specific challenge that you’re facing right now. It can also provide you with an understanding of ‘how therapy works’ and give you an indication of where a longer piece of work might lead.
Longer-term (or open-ended) therapy is where the end is not fixed at the beginning; it can be any length and might continue for several months or even several years. It is an opportunity to explore and think more deeply about your life, your concerns, your values, and your goals. As therapy progresses, we’ll periodically review progress and plan the eventual ending together.
My practice is based in East Putney and is a short walk from both Putney Station (overground) and East Putney Tube (underground).
My first session
If you’re thinking about beginning therapy with me, we can start with a 15-20-minute phone call to get a sense of each other and talk a little about what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to share much on this call; it’s simply a chance for us to see whether an initial session might feel helpful.
During our first in-person session, we’ll go at a pace that feels comfortable to you. You don’t need to have everything worked out or know exactly what to say. We’ll begin exploring what brings you to therapy; it’s your space to talk about whatever feels most important, and we might touch on your understanding of the problems you’re experiencing. We’ll talk about what you’d like from therapy, how the sessions are organised, and we’ll decide together whether we feel comfortable working together. There is no obligation to continue beyond this first session. My aim is for the session to feel supportive and help you to decide whether or not you feel I can help.
The session lasts for 50 minutes and is charged as usual. I usually ask for the fee to be paid by bank transfer at least 24 hours before our first session. If we decide to continue, we can agree on the ongoing payment arrangements together.
