About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Kristian.

I’m a Íø±¬ÃÅ-registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist with over thirteen years of clinical experience in NHS and charitable settings. I provide help and support to people with all kinds of difficulties; people feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, numb, lost or hopeless. People finding themselves stuck in patterns, or with intrusive thoughts, or worries or struggling with difficult emotions. I’m also a person, and someone who has experienced therapy myself. I understand that life can be complicated, uncertain, too much, and at times very painful. These experiences can shape how we feel, how we think, and how we relate to the people around us.

Please feel welcome to get in touch for a free consultation, where we can explore what you’re looking for and whether I might be the right therapist for you. You can call or send a message, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

How I can help:

Therapy can mean different things for different people. For some, it’s a space to process what has happened or what is happening now. For others, it may be a place to develop new ways of coping, achieve new goals, or simply somewhere to be heard and believed without judgement.

I’m based in Abergavenny and cover the surrounding area. I work with adults facing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. I can offer brief, focus-driven therapy for difficulties like Anxiety, or longer-term support for those wanting to understand their relationships or behaviour.

I have a special interest in working with Trauma and survivors of sexual violence, relational patterns, and supporting those struggling with managing strong emotions such as feelings of anger and suicidality.

If you feel that working together might help you, please get in touch to arrange a free fifteen-minute consultation to see whether it feels like we’d work well together.

However you find yourself right now, you don’t have to face it alone.

Practice description

How I Work

I am a Relational Therapist, which means that at the heart of my approach is the relationship we build together. I bring myself to the work as a real person, not a blank screen or an expert who simply analyses you. I strive to be present, genuine, and fully engaged in supporting you as we navigate your journey together.

The connection in the therapy space is not just a setting for the work but an important part of it. The way we relate, the feelings that arise between us, and how we understand one another can reveal patterns in how you relate to yourself and others. We can explore patterns in how you respond, protect yourself, or withdraw, and see what happens when these patterns are understood or approached differently.

Therapy is also a collaborative process, and your feedback matters. If something does not feel right or helpful, we work together to find other ways of approaching it. This ensures that the work is grounded in your experience, responsive to your needs, and empowering rather than prescribed. Therapy is never something done to you, but something we do with you.

I work in a Trauma-Informed way, recognising that overwhelming or distressing experiences can have lasting effects on how we think, feel, and relate. Therapy itself can sometimes feel exposing, and I aim to create a space that feels steady and respectful. You have real choice and control over what we explore and when. Often, we focus first on building safety and stability before addressing more painful or challenging material, and I check in regularly to make sure the pace and focus feel right for you.

Similarly, I welcome and work sensitively with Neurodivergent clients, recognising that different ways of thinking, feeling, and processing the world can shape both experience and the therapeutic process.

I am also an Integrative Therapist. This means I draw on theory and methods from a range of therapeutic approaches rather than following a single model.

My first session

I offer a free 30 minute introductory call so I can get a brief sense of what's happening for you and if I think I might be able to help. This is a chance for us to go over logistics like when and how you'd like us to meet and match our availability.

The first session is a chance for you to meet me and get a sense of how we might work together. It’s also an opportunity for me to gain a more in depth understanding of what you'd like us to work on and what's been happening for you. We’ll meet, I’ll offer you a drink, and introduce myself. You can ask any questions you have about therapy, my experience, or the issues you’re facing, and I’ll do my best to answer them. I’ll also take time to explain important things like confidentiality, so you know what to expect from our sessions from the start.

How long does therapy usually last?

A full standard therapy session is usually 50 minutes long. That's so that therapy doesn't become too tiring for you and we get chance to make sure it feels ok for us to finish before we end the session. I do occasionally offer extended sessions at 90 minutes on request.
