About me and my therapy practice

Life can feel challenging, and it can be hard to notice and appreciate the positives sometimes. You might feel stuck, weighed down by worries you can’t quite see your way through, or unsure of how to move forward. You may be caught in patterns of unhelpful thinking or behaviour, unable to assert yourself at work, with friends, or in your relationship. Perhaps you are feeling held back by constant self-criticism. You may be navigating the grief of a life that hasn't gone the way you hoped, struggling with low mood, or feeling hopeless about the future. You don’t have to figure it all out alone.

I’m here to offer a safe and supportive space to explore what’s on your mind, reconnect with yourself, and find a way forward that feels right for you. Collaboratively, we can work towards rediscovering a sense of hope and direction.

Some of challenges you may be experiencing that I work well with include limerence, relationship issues, low mood, confidence and self-esteem, loss, issues related to ageing and ageing milestones (30, 40, 50 etc.), peri-menopause and career pressures and transitions,  I also offer specialist support to teachers and teaching assistants - if you want to know more about this, please look at the 'Practice Description' section.

I use an integrative approach, blending Gestalt and Psychodynamic therapy with elements of Person-Centred and CBT. This means I adapt my work to meet your individual needs, combining in-depth emotional exploration with practical tools for change. My style is warm, collaborative, and grounding - I aim to help you feel both supported and gently challenged, so you can make meaningful shifts in your life.

I work in person from a welcoming, calm and safe therapeutic space in Bournville, close to the train station and with street parking. I also offer sessions online via Teams or GoogleMeet to enable clients the flexibility and convenience of working around work and home life.

Do get in touch if you feel we may work well together.

Practice description

Whether in person or online, I work with you to explore and navigate the challenges and complexities life can involve. I work integratively, so I can tailor our sessions to you and what you are experiencing. You can expect warmth, compassion, humour and understanding.

In addition to the detailed areas, I can also help with confusion around cultural identity, as well as exploring some of the complexities around balancing familial and community expectations with your own needs and living your life in a way that feels authentic to you.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in education for nearly two decades, supporting both staff and students. This experience gave me deep insight into the specific stressors and emotional demands of this environment, and I continue to work with teachers and those navigating career pressures.

If you are in education, some of the ways I can help you are:

Becoming more boundaried and balanced

Prioritising your health and wellbeing

Managing stress

Minimising anxiety around unstructured time during holidays

Planning for ‘pinch-points’ in the academic year

Navigating challenging conversations

Negotiating 'Back to school blues'

Developing increased confidence, self-esteem and working with imposter syndrome

Exploring personal issues such as bereavement, ill health, relationship challenges and financial worries.

My first session

Your first counselling session is an important step, and it’s natural to feel a little uncertain about what to expect. Think of it as a gentle beginning — a chance for us to get to know one another and start building a connection based on trust, warmth and understanding.

During this initial meeting, you’ll have space to talk about what’s brought you to counselling and what you’re hoping to gain from it. We’ll explore your hopes and expectations together, and if you’ve had counselling or therapy before, you’re welcome to share what worked well for you and what didn’t. This helps me understand how best to support you.

We’ll also talk through confidentiality, so you can feel reassured about the privacy and safety of what you share. I’ll ask a few questions about your background and upbringing, as well as your current life and work situations. Sometimes this might include aspects like health, sleep or general wellbeing — all the parts that make up who you are and how you experience life.

Throughout our conversation, you’ll find that humour, compassion and empathy are central to how I work. I believe that counselling doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time; moments of lightness and shared humanity can be just as healing.

Most importantly, this first session is an opportunity for you to ask questions, express any concerns, and see how it feels to talk with me. Counselling is a deeply personal process, and it matters that we relate well to each other. This meeting allows us both to get a sense of that.

By the end of our time together, you’ll hopefully have a clearer sense of what counselling with me might look like, and whether it feels like the right fit for you. My aim is for you to leave feeling heard, respected and gently understood — the start of a space where you can begin to explore, heal and grow at your own pace.
