About me and my therapy practice
Hi there, I’m Emily. I’m a qualified integrative counsellor and a Registered Member of the Íø±¬ÃÅ (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists).
Counselling means different things to different people. For some, it helps them make sense of current challenges, which could be in their relationships, at work, or due to unexpected events that have knocked them off their feet.
For others, it’s a safe place to explore past events, vulnerabilities, or traumas that shape the way they live, and which create patterns of behaviour that they want to move on from.
And for many, it’s also an opportunity to explore their feelings of being stuck or disconnected, of simply existing day-to-day instead of living.
Whatever the reason, counselling gives you the space to step back, take a deep breath, and move towards lasting change. And I’ll be there to help you along the way.
Practice description
As an integrative counsellor, I don’t use a ‘one size fits all’ approach. I’ll draw on different parts of my training to find a collaborative way of working that clicks for you. I see you as an individual who knows yourself better than anyone else could; my job is to help you build trust in yourself and to help you overcome obstacles along the way.
In my training, I worked with adults (18+) who had experiences of domestic abuse, homelessness, and sexual exploitation, amongst others. This makes me a trauma-informed counsellor, meaning that we will work at your pace, and that we won’t spend every minute of every session focussing on a traumatic event. I will never judge you, rush you, or force you to relive the trauma.
My first session
If you feel that we might be a good fit, I offer a free 15-minute consultation, either on the phone or online. This gives us a chance to get a feel for whether we could work well together. Feel free to ask me any questions about counselling more generally as well – even if we don’t end up working together, I’m more than happy to help you in your search!
If we do decide to work together, our next session will involve us going through our counselling contract, which we may be able to tweak to suit you better. We’ll also have a more general conversation about you, your history, and what has brought you to counselling, so we can think about what your goals might be and how we get there. The session after this will be fully diving into therapy!
I charge £45 for in-person and online sessions (each session is 50 minutes). I offer a limited number of discounted sessions for counselling students at £35 per session, and a limited number of low-cost sessions for people receiving benefits at £15 per session.
