About me and my therapy practice

Perhaps as you read this, you’re wondering if this is what you need. Taking this step is about finding the resources within you and building a trusting partnership where you can explore every part of yourself without shame or fear. At the heart of my approach is a belief in each person’s expertise in their own life and the healing power of a genuine, supportive relationship.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked for many years as a palliative trained GP with a special interest in dementia and geriatrics. Witnessing how emotional, spiritual, social and physical health are deeply connected led me to retrain as a Person Centred Pluralistic therapist, allowing me to deepen and combine my knowledge and experience.

Loss, uncertainty and change weave through all our lives, at times leaving us feeling disconnected, anxious, or stuck. Whether you’re facing bereavement, life changing illness, life transitions, relocation, or the challenges of caring for someone, I offer a safe, collaborative space to explore what these experiences mean for you.

Being person -centred means placing you at the core of the work, not fixing but finding your own way. Combining this with a trauma informed approach, means collaboration and communication are foremost allowing a trusting relationship ensuring that you are never pushed to where you feel unsafe. You bring the expertise in your life, and I bring my knowledge, authenticity, and experience.

My core values are respect, integrity, autonomy and a strong belief in a non-discriminatory approach. I believe each of us is shaped by our own story—our family, culture and personal experiences—and therapy should honour that individuality. This is an invitation to take a step towards backing yourself. We may be the right fit or not, whatever the outcome I will do my best to help.

Practice description

I work with adults facing a wide range of difficulties, including:

  • Grief and bereavement
  • The impact of life-changing or life-limiting illnesses including chronic illnesses and cancer, dementia, or end-of-life care.
  •  The emotional impact of aging, and/or isolation.
  • Support for carers and families.
  • Life transitions and adjustments - menopause, retirement, loss of a loved one.
  • Relocation and immigration

At times words may be out of reach or just to hard to express and using creative and symbolic therapies may offer an alternate way to access these words and emotions. I offer sand tray therapy as part and other creative outlets as part of our work together.

I am available for in-person, online and phone sessions, making therapy accessible to suit your needs. I try when possible to offer flexibility. House calls are available on discussion.

My first session

I offer a free 20 minute phone or video call for us to see if we would like to work together.

Therapy is a challenging and highly personal journey and it is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist.

In our first session, we may explore what has brought you to therapy, and what you hope to gain. This doesn't mean you must have a clear idea or answer to these questions, sometimes it’s simply a feeling, or a deep sense that something needs to change. Within this space nothing is right or wrong, it is yours to use as you need to. This session will be about getting a sense of how we can work together, and whether you feel I am the right person for you to work with. While there may be some basic information that may be needed for our mutual safety and safe guarding, I will never push for what you do not want to give. If we feel we may not be the right fit, I will always attempt to help you as best I can.
