About me and my therapy practice
Dalia Zermon - Integrative Therapist - using the arts (Íø±¬ÃÅ)
You might feel stuck in certain areas of your life, or struggle with your feelings or relationships.
Life can feel complex and challenging to everyone at times. I offer a safe and non-judgemental space and work in an integrative, relational and embodied way - acknowledging how family, culture and society impact our sense of self and our relationships.
You may be struggling with depression, anxiety, low-mood, trauma, PTSD, grief, bereavement, sexuality, gender and identity, or you may like to explore how to move forward in certain relationships that feel blocked. Perhaps everything looks good on paper, but you have a sense you’d like to expand or develop your self-understanding, awareness, confidence or focus on a practical area of your life.
I offer a supportive, dynamic and creative space to begin the work of change.
I have an Integrative Psychotherapeutic approach (Íø±¬ÃÅ) mixing talk therapy with the use of the arts (trained at IATE) - for those who would like to try using the arts. The arts offer a powerful vehicle for expression, connecting to parts of the self, emotional regulation, and for exploring relationship dynamics (no art experience or talent required).
Contact me to arrange a free 15 minute phone consultation. I offer a sliding scale on session costs.
Practice description
Integrative therapy & the arts
I believe that the here-and-now experiences a person has are partly based on choices, but are also framed by family experiences - both personal and ancestral, the cultural and sub-cultural social frames in which we find ourselves - with society and early childhood experiences shaping our beliefs, experiences and self understanding. It is from this formation and base that we navigate the world, often noticing recurring feelings or experiences in our relationships and friendships, or in the world in general.
'To let go of ourselves, we need to find ourselves'
By unravelling some of your experiences and conditioning, we can connect to your truer self where you may feel freer, more honest and able to achieve life experiences you currently feel you are held back from reaching.
Therapy can be confronting and stepping into your shadow parts - pain, loss, grief, anger, jealousy are really important aspects of the process. We go completely at your pace with sensitivity, holding and compassion at all times so this really feels like your therapy journey.
Why use the Arts?
Some people can find it hard to access their feelings or to express them verbally. The Arts provide a vehicle for expressing which is visual, impactful and non-verbal. You do not need to have any art experience at all - this is not about talent, this is about scribbles and marks and perhaps words, body movements, poetry, visualisations that any person can engage in.
Making art bypasses logical thinking and so rather than you thinking of something you'd like to express and making a piece of art about it, you may also begin to free-flow with some art materials and no plan at all - just making marks and seeing what comes through - through this unplanned expression you create symbols, which we can work on therapeutically, together.
Lastly, making art can have a restorative and relaxing quality, so it can work well for those seeking better emotional regulation or stress management.
