About me and my therapy practice

‘’Supporting mothers and women* through all stages of life’’

My name is Kate. I offer counselling and psychotherapy to Mums and Women*, both in person from a private and cosy therapy room in Chapel Allerton, Leeds, and online via Zoom.

I am passionate about supporting and advocating for women’s mental health and wellbeing and the unique struggles we face.

*My therapy is welcoming to women of all ages and walks of life.  It is a safe space for all women, including people who menstruate, pregnant people and trans women.  Anyone who identifies as a woman will find a safe space.  Menstruating/pregnant/birthing people who do not identify as a woman are welcome.

My practice is LGBTQ+ friendly.

Practice description

Are you a new Mum and finding Motherhood to be harder than you imagined?

You might have concerns about low mood or feelings of anxiety, anger and rage. Perhaps you experienced a stressful or traumatic birth. Maybe you have experienced the heartbreak of infertility or loss on your journey.

You might be a Mum of older children, struggling to juggle the many aspects of life and hold the ‘mental load’ of everyone.

You could be experiencing the difficulties we face due to the hormonal changes caused by PMS or PMDD, and the emotional toll of these.

Or you may be transitioning into a new stage of life and experiencing peri-menopause/menopause, leaving you unsure of this new version of yourself.

Relationships with partners, our children, our wider family and friends can be difficult to navigate when we’re going through these issues; especially if we have had difficult or traumatic experiences in our past.

I provide a confidential, empathic and non-judgemental space and am led by you and what you bring. I will walk alongside you, at your pace, to unpick and understand your experiences and difficulties better.

How I approach supporting you

I am an integrative therapist, which means that my training included different modalities and methods of approaching people’s difficulties and of helping them to overcome these. I can draw on these various models and theories as I work with you as an individual with your own unique experiences.

Underpinning my work with you will be a relational and person-centred approach; meaning that our therapeutic relationship is central to everything. I believe that it is our human-to-human connection, alongside my authentic, non-judgemental and empathic presence, that is the most important part of therapy.

Together we can gently try to understand anything that might be troubling you from your past; focus on experiences and difficulties currently in your life today; and explore techniques and more useful ways of thinking and behaving in your future.

My first session

First Step - Free Initial Consultation Telephone or Zoom Call - 15 minutes

This is a free call to see if we are a good fit for each other. I can answer any questions you might have and explain how our sessions might work. It’s a first chance to briefly share what’s going on for you at the moment. There’s no pressure to book sessions, but if you feel ready and want to we can book your first session in at the end of the call.  I generally recommend weekly sessions, at the same time each week, if you are able.

If you would like to proceed with me we will then have an initial assessment session where we will go over a contract and explore with more depth what has brought you to counselling at this point.
