About me and my therapy practice
My name is Jo and I am a qualified integrative counsellor. I offer face-to-face counselling in Cornwall near Bodmin, Wadebridge and in Truro, as well as online sessions.
I am interested in every client at every stage and transition of their life. Each client is unique. Your reasons for coming to counselling will be yours alone; your story will be unlike anybody else’s, and I will respect that. Life can sometimes be overwhelming. Our feelings about events and relationships – past, present and future – can be bewildering, painful, all-consuming. I can offer you confidential, accepting, empathetic support to resolve whatever brings you to therapy. You hold the answers; our work together will illuminate them.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in connection, empathy, compassion and respect. I see therapy as a gift to oneself and something that everyone deserves. It is an opportunity to unburden and unpick; to unravel those parts of your story and yourself that feel difficult or painful. It provides freedom to talk about your innermost feelings to someone with professional training, who will listen without judgment and for whose reaction you need not feel responsible.
Key to it all is the strength and depth of the relationship we build between us. I bring warmth, empathy, and intelligence to the therapy room, and provide my clients with a safe, respectful and supportive environment. I work with imagination and insight, wit and wisdom. Therapy is hard but rewarding work; uncomfortable but revelatory; painful but valuable. It is a serious undertaking but it doesn’t have to be humourless. There may well be tears but there will probably also be laughter.
Practice description
I am an integrative counsellor, meaning that I have been trained in several different therapeutic approaches from which I can create a tailored approach to suit you. I work collaboratively with each client to develop that. Largely, our work will be through talking, but we may also work creatively or with somatics (breath and body work) and mindfulness.
My practice also draws on a wealth of experience from my business career. I have worked in global corporates, SMEs and in the charity sector, and relocated several times within the UK and abroad. After moving to Cornwall in 2003, I founded and ran my own retail company before retraining as a counsellor.
I work with adults facing a wide range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, stress, bereavement, loss and relationship issues. I am experienced in working with clients with a background of trauma and domestic abuse. I have a particular interest in infertility and IVF. You may be struggling with relocation, parenting, caring, or facing redundancy, divorce, an empty nest or retirement. You may be dealing with something from your past that is inhibiting the way your live your life now, or you may feel stuck, numb or lost.
I know that it can take courage to take the first step. But you are reading this to find someone who can help, so I invite you to get in touch to see how I could support you.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office. I abide by the Íø±¬ÃÅ's Ethical Framework. I have regular supervision and CPD and am fully insured.
