About me and my therapy practice

Finding purpose and meaning in life can be challenging. The world we live in can seem like quite a hostile place for those who are beginning to ask deeper questions, for those who do not want to squeeze themselves into a way of living that isn’t true to who they are, or for those who find that life is just feeling empty right now.

Those asking questions like ‘What is the point of all this?’, ‘Why am I here?’ and ‘Is a different way of living even possible?’

Asking these questions can trigger a crisis, a point in our lives where everything seems like too much. This can present itself as a depression, a high level of anxiety, despair and maybe even suicidal thoughts. Hope may be lost, relationships may be strained, and a way out may seem impossible.

If this sounds like you, I may be able to support you as you unpack what you believe is causing your suffering and begin this precious journey of self-discovery.

Practice description

I believe what you may be experiencing can be perceived simultaneously in two ways.

Firstly, a breakdown of an old way of being in the world that isn’t serving you anymore. To ‘survive’ as children, we are forced to fit into the structures that surround us. On a smaller scale, this is our family and friends, the roles we play and what they expect from us to be ‘good’ human beings. On a larger scale, it is our school, the society we grew up in and the cultural norms we are expected to adhere to.

There comes a point in adulthood when, to some extent, we realise that we have been acting in a way that isn’t totally true to who we authentically are.

We notice, usually without realising, that there is a gap between how we are acting in the world and who we really are. If this gap is big, it can cause a significant crisis.

The second way I believe we can view this is that, through this breakdown of an old way of being in the world, we are creating room for a new way to live. One where we can live true to ourselves and find meaning and purpose in life that aligns with who we truly are.

This can be a really hard task to undertake on your own, and this is where I see my role as your therapist to assist you on this journey.

We will go at your own pace and unpack whatever you feel is important, in as safe a way as possible.

It may take us to old family relationships, partners, work, friends, life events you found traumatic or unbearable, societal expectations, the influence of social media, and many more.

I aim to work in a way that does not put pressure on you to go to places that seem like too much. Rather, I hope to provide an accepting, safe, non-judgemental environment where you work at a pace that feels OK.

I know from my own experience and the experience of people I’ve worked with previously that change is most certainly possible. I hope to help you create an environment, internally and externally, where this can be true for you too.
