About me and my therapy practice

Hello, and a warm welcome.

I offer an anti-oppressive, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where all identities, backgrounds, and experiences are valued. Reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step, and you don’t have to face life’s challenges alone. Here, you are invited to bring your whole self — your thoughts, feelings, experiences, and hopes — and be met with care, empathy, and respect.

I see therapy as a collaborative journey, guided by openness, curiosity, and your unique needs. Together, we can explore how your inner and outer worlds shape who you are, gently uncovering strengths, tender places, and new possibilities for healing and growth. While therapy can sometimes feel challenging, it can also bring clarity, resilience, and even moments of lightness and humour.

I welcome everyone, and I have particular experience supporting people affected by rape and sexual abuse, adult survivors of child sexual abuse, domestic abuse, trauma, anxiety, chronic illness and pain, baby loss, life loss, and grief. Whatever your story, I believe you already carry the wisdom and resilience you need, and our work together can help bring that forward.

My approach is integrative and flexible, drawing on Person-Centred counselling, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Transactional Analysis (TA), somatic awareness, and creative interventions. I work from a trauma-informed perspective, always respecting your pace, your safety, and your unique journey.

Alongside my professional training, my own life experiences have shaped the way I practice and help me bring a depth of empathy and understanding. Clients often describe me as calm, supportive, and down-to-earth, and I aim to create a safe and trusting environment where you can feel truly met as you take steps towards healing and change.

Practice description

I offer a safe, supportive space where you can explore what feels important to you. Sessions are collaborative and paced around your needs — whether you’re seeking short-term support or longer-term therapy to explore patterns, trauma, or ongoing challenges.

I work integratively, drawing on Person-Centred counselling, Gestalt, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Transactional Analysis (TA), somatic awareness, and creative interventions. I adapt my approach to you, respecting your pace and goals. Sessions may be reflective, exploratory, or practical, depending on what is most helpful.

My style is relaxed and down-to-earth, allowing room for moments of lightness and laughter as well as space for tears. I take therapy seriously, recognising it requires courage and respect. I work in line with the Íø±¬ÃÅ Ethical Framework, attend regular supervision, and continue professional development.

Sessions last 1 hour and are offered weekly or fortnightly in Exeter (Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with some evening availability) and Ottery St Mary (Fridays), with online sessions also available. I also offer walk-and-talk therapy in nature, which some clients find helps them reflect and process more comfortably.

Your first session is an opportunity to meet, discuss what brings you to therapy, and decide together if working with me feels like a good fit. Confidentiality, care, and respect are at the heart of my practice, providing a steady space to face life’s challenges and move towards healing and change.

My first session

I understand that starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s important that you feel comfortable with the counsellor you choose. To support this, I offer a free 30-minute initial phone call, so that we can get to know each other a little before committing to ongoing sessions.

This first conversation is an opportunity for you to share what brings you to therapy, ask any questions you may have, and get a sense of how I work. There is no pressure — it’s simply a chance to see if we feel like a good fit for one another.

During this initial phone chat, you are welcome to talk about what feels most important for you right now, and we can think together about what you might need from therapy. We can also discuss practicalities such as availability, location (Exeter, Ottery St Mary, or online), and whether you would like weekly or fortnightly sessions.

If you decide to continue, we will then book regular 1-hour sessions. From there, the work is shaped collaboratively at your pace and according to your needs.

My aim is to make this first step as welcoming and straightforward as possible, so that you can begin therapy with a sense of clarity and ease
