About me and my therapy practice
I believe that counselling is a safe space that offers an opportunity for you to be unapologetically you. To be accepted, heard and supported to explore the things that brought you into therapy. This could be big life events or a general feeling of being discontented with how things are in the moment and wanting to explore that further.
I aim to offer a safe and trusting space where you can feel secure enough to express yourself without judgement. To facilitate personal growth and self-awareness, promote self-acceptance and empower decision-making, supporting you to find your own solutions.
Every person who accesses counselling has different needs and processes things in different ways. I do not believe that one type of counselling fits everyone or every situation. Being able to offer a broader spectrum of modalities, knowledge and skills allows for a more flexible way of working.
As well as my Counselling Private Practice, I have worked within substance misuse services for 14 years as a drug and alcohol worker and am also a Trauma-informed trainer within the NHS.
I have a passion for working with trauma and women's health issues.
Practice description
I am an integrative counsellor with a Person-Centred core modality meaning the therapeutic relationship is key to our work together and I work alongside you through therapy. Other modalities and ways of working also form part of the way I work:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Transactional Analysis (TA)
Working creatively
Working holistically
Motivational interviewing
Solution-focused brief therapy
I am also a Sand Story Therapist and I am able to offer this to clients when it is felt like an appropriate way of working together. This type of therapy is suitable for all ages and can be especially beneficial in clients who have experienced trauma and find it hard to express how they feel in a traditional counselling setting.
Sand Story Therapy offers a way of working with all levels of consciousness to access a greater depth of exploration and understanding. It is suitable for all ages and is a powerful way for you to visibly show your story rather than just using words. It is a gentle and safe way of working on difficult issues including trauma and addiction and allows us to look at each 'chapter', one step at a time, at your own pace.
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute phone conversation to answer any questions you might have and to offer an opportunity to get a feel for whether I might be the right fit for you.If you decide you would like to, we can then arrange an assessment appointment. During the assessment appointment, we will spend time talking about what has led you to seek counselling and what you would like to get out of our work together. It is ok if there aren't clear answers to these questions at this stage, it just gives us a starting point to work from. I will also explain how I work, what you can expect from sessions and answer any questions you may have.
Each session will last 50 minutes and can be in-person or online. This appointment also offers the opportunity for you to see how you feel and whether you feel that I am the right fit for you.
There is no expectation for you to disclose everything in the first session.
My aim is to provide a safe and supportive space for you to feel able to explore what you need to at your own pace.
An assessment appointment is charged the same rate as ongoing sessions.
