About me and my therapy practice

Hello- I'm glad you're here.

Life isn't always straight forward. We all face challenges at times. You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, burnt-out or sad, navigating grief or an identity challenge. You may feel in crisis, or simply unable to shake the feeling that something isn't quite right.

Whatever has brought you here, you don't have to face it alone.

In my counselling room, I offer a friendly and supportive space where you can talk freely. I welcome whatever you bring, and you don't need to come with answers, together we will work out what's going on for you and explore the possibility of change - whatever that may look like for you.

How do I work?

I am a Masters level integrative relational counselling psychotherapist in private practice. I also work within a small collective of counsellors and psychotherapists at Arbour Counselling and Psychotherapy, Leeds and as a counselling coordinator supporting trainee counsellors in Calderdale.

What does that mean?

Integrative means that I am trained to draw on a number of theoretical approaches that are flexible and tailored to suit your individual needs, rather than a 'one size fits all' approach. An integrative approach allows us to explore both the present and the past, to consider your values and your relationships, to look at your thoughts, feelings and emotions and see how these may interconnect - all in a way that feels meaningful to you.

Relational means that connection is at the heart of our work. Research tells us that the most influential agent of change within counselling is the therapeutic relationship. I aim to meet you where you are, to create a collaborative and trusting connection that feels supportive, safe and grounded to you.

At your own pace, we can gently explore how past experiences may be shaping your present, look at any unresolved issues, and notice patterns that might be getting in the way. This process can bring fresh insight into the challenges you’re facing.

Practice description

Within counselling, real change happens when you feel truly heard, understood, and supported. A safe space without judgement allows you the freedom to start exploring your experiences from a different perspective.

I think that therapy can be viewed as a partnership - you bring your own unique story, and I bring knowledge, experience and training - together forming the tools to help us make sense of things together.

My experiences have shown me that everyone has the capacity for change, growth and healing, even in the face of difficult challenges.

I’ve supported people through a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, grief, loss, parental abuse and identity challenges. I have supported women within the criminal justice system, and I have particular experience supporting unpaid carers and the challenges this role may bring to their mental health.

Through my experiences, I have witnessed how these challenges can affect daily life, relationships, self- esteem and how we view ourselves. I have also seen the meaningful change, gained through counselling, when people can say 'I just don't feel that way anymore.'

If any of this resonates with you, I’d be glad to hear from you. You don’t have to face things alone - sometimes the first step towards change is simply reaching out.

My first session

I know that beginning therapy can feel overwhelming, and so I offer a free, no obligation 15 minute telephone call to see if we are the right fit for each other. It's not a therapy session - just a chance for you to ask any questions you may have and get a feel for how I work.

Sessions

if we are working face to face, I will send you directions before our session with everything you need to know.

If we are working online, I will send you a zoom/teams link before our session.

Sessions last for 50 minutes. During our first therapy session, we will talk about:

• What has brought you to therapy.

• Explore some of your hopes for our work together.

• Discuss what you feel is important for me to know about you.

• Go over some practical points like frequency, timings, responsibilities and boundaries.

Our sessions always move at your pace, and there is no pressure for you to explain everything perfectly - just come as you are. I’m passionate about the work I do and truly believe in the positive difference therapy can make to everyday life.

Please feel free to contact me for further information or to arrange an appointment
