About me and my therapy practice
I mainly specialise in helping with both anxiety and relationship issues. I can help with various kinds of anxiety including generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic/anxiety attacks and separation anxiety. Other issues sometimes accompany anxiety, including depression, low self-esteem, relationship problems, and physical symptoms – we can explore these as well. I’m trained in multiple ways of working, and together we can find the style which suits you best.
You may want help with a specific issue in your life. Or our work might be to gain insight into past experiences, and bring patterns of thought and behaviour to light. Or perhaps you feel you are already aware of the issues, but still cannot move beyond them? In this case we can take an experiential approach, using various techniques to gently process the emotions and feelings together in our sessions.
Above all I always work relationally, doing my utmost to put you at ease and make it natural, safe and comfortable to talk.
Practice description
At its heart, counselling is a therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor.
For many people it’s a safe place to express their feelings, or say out loud things which they’ve never said before. For others it’s a journey of self-discovery, with breakthroughs and ‘lightbulb moments’ along the way. Some clients simply want support, without judgement or pressure, until they are ready to move forward.
The therapy time is yours, and together we can discover what works best for you.
Sitting still in a counselling room does not suit everybody. Some clients want to sit alongside me instead of opposite, or move about a bit during sessions, or lie down. That’s all absolutely fine. If it works for you, it works for me. We can also do some sessions outdoors if you like, walking or sitting somewhere quiet.
Sometimes I also work with clients experientially or creatively to help unlock emotions, or process things which cannot be accessed by talking alone. This is not a standalone therapy, and can be integrated into our work together as required.
I also offer remote counselling by phone or video call. Your counselling can be delivered exclusively in this way, or we could do a mix of in-person and remote working.
