About me and my therapy practice
I started my career change quite late in life after bringing up a family of my own and being a foster carer. Within this time I also worked as a Teaching Assistant in a special needs school so am fully aware of the daily challenges SEN children and families face.
Fostering proved to be a pivotal point in my life and felt it really made a huge difference to the young peoples lives I fostered. I then found myself wanting to do something else to make a similar difference.
I feel all of these life experiences have enhanced my understanding of issues faced by lots of different groups of people and I feel passionate about providing a counselling space where people can be heard and understood.
Training to be a counsellor was truly life changing for me on both a personal and professional level. I have always found it so inspiring and a real privilege to walk alongside someone on their personal journey.
I provide a safe, warm, non-judgemental space for you to share any problems or challenges you are facing. My role is to walk beside you to work through these challenges at your own pace as I believe you are the expert in your own life. I can help support and guide you in exploring your feelings so you can find your own answers.
I offer face-to-face sessions, online and walk and talk sessions. These sessions can also be blended (a mixture of the above) as I understand life isn't always so straightforward.
Practice description
I trained as an integrative counsellor and that means my practice draws on a variety of theories and approaches. I am naturally Person-Centred but also work in Psychodynamic and Gestalt Theories.
I can work long-term, short term. I offer face-to-face, online, walk and talk or blended sessions as I understand that sometimes life gets in the way and there is a need for flexibility.
I have a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and currently embarking on a Level 5 Children and Young Person Course.
I tailor your therapy entirely to your individual needs and hopes. The length and frequency of your sessions are designed around what works best for you.
Coming to therapy can feel overwhelming and daunting so I offer a space that is warm, safe and welcoming. We start in the discovery session to get to know a little bit about each other and your hopes and expectations. If you're unsure what these are, it's ok we can work on finding out what they may be. We will review every 6 weeks to make sure your hopes are still being met and if we need to go in any different direction.
We will work to an ending when you feel the time is right. You are at the centre of everything we do.
My first session
Having the right Therapist is so vital to your therapy and process. I offer a 20 minute discovery call, teams or face to face session as an opportunity for us to get to know each other and explore how we might proceed. It's important to see how you feel by getting a sense of us working together. This session is free of charge.
This is also an opportunity to ask any questions, understand how I work and YOU decide whether this feels like the right support for you.
