About me and my therapy practice
I’m Jo, a qualified therapeutic counsellor offering trauma-informed, neuro-affirming counselling for adults (18+). I work online and in person from private offices in Banbury and Culworth, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.
My practice is grounded in person-centred values: I work at your pace, holding space with empathy, safety, and respect. While this forms the foundation of my work, I also draw from other therapeutic approaches when helpful, including attachment theory, which focuses on the importance of early relationships, psychoeducation, which provides information to help you understand your experiences, and relational ways of working, which emphasises the therapeutic relationship. Therapy should adapt to fit you, not the other way around.
Many of the people I support are navigating anxiety, low self-worth, burnout, trauma, or life transitions. Some are reconnecting with parts of themselves they’ve hidden or silenced. Others are processing the emotional impact of perimenopause or exploring late-diagnosed neurodivergence. My work often involves gently exploring how the past might appear in the present, while building tools to support emotional resilience and reconnection with self.
As a neurodivergent-affirming therapist, I welcome and respect all ways of thinking, feeling, sensing, and being. Whether you’re neurodivergent or exploring that possibility, you’ll be met with openness and care. You don’t need to mask here, and you don’t need to explain everything. Your unique self is already enough.
Counselling isn’t about fixing you. It’s about creating a safe and supportive space where you can be seen, heard, and understood without judgment, just as you are.
Please feel free to get in touch if you'd like to learn more or explore working together.
Practice description
I offer one-to-one counselling for adults (18+) in person and online. My services cover a wide range of issues, including anxiety, trauma, shame, burnout, and identity. I currently practise from Banbury town centre (The Manse, South Bar Street) and a quieter space in the village of Culworth. Both locations are calm, private, and thoughtfully designed to offer a welcoming space for reflection and connection. Please note that my Banbury office is on the first floor and accessed by stairs.
I also offer online therapy via a secure video platform for clients across the UK. Some clients prefer online sessions for ease or accessibility, while others choose in-person or a blend of both. You’re welcome to explore what works best for you. We can discuss your preferences and needs during our initial session to determine the most suitable mode of therapy for you.
With a commitment to your mental health journey, sessions are 50 minutes long and take place weekly at a regular time. Depending on your needs and goals, I offer both short-term and longer-term work. Payment is needed in advance via card or bank transfer to secure your session, and cancellation and payment terms are outlined on my website.
My practice may be a good fit for you if you’re looking for a warm, affirming space to explore anxiety, trauma, shame, burnout, or identity. I work well with clients who feel different, stuck, or disconnected, whether due to neurodivergence, cultural identity, hormonal shifts, or past experiences. If you’re navigating a time of change or reflection, or want space to understand yourself better, you’re very welcome here.
If you're unsure where to begin, that’s okay. We can take it step by step. You're not expected to have it all figured out; you're just invited to show up as you are.
My first session
Your first session is a crucial step in our therapeutic journey. It's an opportunity for you to take the lead, to share your story, understand your needs, and see if we're a good fit. Reaching out for support can be a big step, and I aim to make this process as gentle and straightforward as possible, empowering you in your healing journey.
Before your first session, I’ll email you a short intake form and client agreement. These documents are designed to give you a chance to share any key information in advance, which will help me understand your needs better. They also outline my terms around payment, confidentiality, and cancellations, ensuring we are on the same page from the start. You're welcome to ask questions about either before we begin.
The first session is charged at my standard rate of £65 for 50 minutes. There's no obligation to continue—some clients know quickly that it feels right, while others want time to think, and that’s fine. I want to emphasise that there’s no pressure from me to decide during or after the session. Your comfort and readiness are the most important factors in our therapeutic journey.
You don’t need to prepare anything beyond the initial form. The session is a space for you to share a little about what brings you to therapy, what you'd like support with (if you know), and to ask any questions about how I work. You’re welcome to go at your own pace, and there’s no expectation to disclose everything immediately. We can take our time to build trust and connection.
In the first session, I don’t use formal assessments. Instead, I focus on creating a safe, grounded space where you feel heard. I may offer gentle reflections, but my main role is to listen with care and curiosity, and to understand your unique perspective and needs.
If it feels right to continue, we’ll agree on a regular weekly time. If I believe another service might better meet your needs, I’ll always let you know and help signpost you.
