About me and my therapy practice

I’m Lucia Harvey, an integrative CYP psychotherapeutic counsellor offering confidential therapy for children, young people and adults. My approach is warm, collaborative and trauma-informed, with a focus on building a trusting therapeutic relationship that supports emotional safety, self-understanding and resilience.

My main area of training is with children and young people. I’ve worked in both primary and secondary school settings, using creative and developmentally attuned approaches to help young people feel safe, understood and supported. I also work with adults, often around parenting or family-related challenges, offering space to reflect, process and reconnect with what matters most.

I draw from a range of therapeutic models including humanistic, person-centred and CBT-informed approaches, always tailoring the work to your unique needs and circumstances. Whether you're facing specific challenges or seeking greater self-understanding and emotional balance, I can help by offering a calm and consistent space to explore your experiences and support meaningful change.

I hold an MSc in Psychology and a Level 6 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. I have completed specialist training in trauma-informed practice, creative and play-based techniques, safeguarding and risk assessment, psychoeducation, and neurodiversity-aware approaches. I have experience across schools, charities, crisis services, and private practice, working both short- and long-term with a diverse client base.

I work in accordance with the Íø±¬ÃÅ ethical framework and receive regular clinical supervision to ensure safe and ethical practice.

In addition to private practice, I bring experience from roles in mental health charities, crisis support, education and corporate settings. This broad foundation helps me support clients from diverse backgrounds with openness, flexibility and care.

Practice description

I offer face-to-face counselling from a quiet, confidential room at The Village Surgery in Cramlington. It is a welcoming space where you can feel safe, respected and supported.

My practice is grounded in an integrative, trauma-informed approach. I work with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties including anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief, identity concerns, relationship challenges and family stress. My work is shaped by your needs, whether you are looking to understand yourself better, navigate a difficult period or explore longer-term patterns.

I specialise in working with children and young people, using creative, play-based and developmentally appropriate methods that help them express and process their feelings. I also work with adults, particularly in relation to parenting challenges or transitions that affect family life.

Sessions are usually weekly and I tend to work long term, though short-term support may be possible depending on availability. I aim to create a relationship where you feel genuinely heard, where you can begin to connect with your own strengths and where growth becomes possible.

Therapy is not just about managing symptoms. It is about supporting lasting change through understanding, self-acceptance and resilience.

My first session

Before we begin, I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions, get a sense of how I work and decide whether it feels like the right fit.

When working with children and young people, I usually begin with a session for parents or carers only, where possible. This gives us the chance to explore the child’s needs, talk through relevant background and think together about how best to support them. All following sessions are one-to-one with the child or young person, giving them a safe and private space of their own.

For adults, the first session is a chance to begin exploring what has brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping for. I will ask some gentle questions to help us understand your goals and how we might work together. This session sets the tone for what a supportive and collaborative process can look like.

If you or your child have any specific needs or preferences, I welcome you to share them. Therapy should feel accessible, inclusive and shaped around what helps you feel at ease.
