About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified male psychodynamic counsellor, providing a calm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space to explore what may be difficult to voice or confront in life. My approach is rooted in the belief that much of our current experience stems from early encounters, often hidden but influential in shaping how we relate to ourselves and others.
Our work together will be a space of curiosity, challenge, and growth, designed to help you understand yourself more deeply. This can be a courageous journey, sometimes uncomfortable, but also potentially transformative and creative.
Finding the right counsellor is an important part of this process. You may not know immediately if I am the right person for you, and that’s perfectly okay. I strongly believe in helping you find someone you can work with, even if that person isn’t me. The therapeutic relationship is a professional partnership; it’s not a friendship, but it can become a meaningful and even life-changing part of your story. It’s this unique connection that often enables deep and lasting change to take root.
Whether you're dealing with relationships, low mood, anxiety, identity, or simply a sense that something isn’t quite right, our sessions can provide an adventurous and thought-provoking space to explore what lies beneath the surface. I will be alongside you as we work together to make sense of it.
Practice description
I’m an experienced psychodynamic counsellor working with adults (18+) both in person and online. I have a qualification in Psychodynamic Therapeutic Counselling and have worked with individuals and couples in community organisations and private practice.
Psychodynamic counselling isn’t about tools, quick fixes or the latest gimmick. It’s about exploring your inner world, the thoughts, feelings, and patterns that affect your life and relationships. I offer a safe, caring space where you can share your story, and gain insight into how your past influences your present. This can lead to emotional growth and lasting change.
This approach isn’t for everyone, but for many, the effects can be deep and enduring. Therapy develops at your pace. It's a space to be curious, supported, and understood.
I’ve helped clients with depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, identity questions (including LGBTQ+), trauma, parenting challenges, disordered eating, and body image concerns.
My first session
I offer an introductory consultation as the first step in beginning therapy. We can conduct this via telephone or online. This is a chance for us to meet, talk about what brings you to therapy, and for you to ask any questions about how I work. It’s an opportunity to get a feel for the process and begin thinking together about what you might need. The duration of this is 30 minutes.
Choosing the right therapist is an important part of starting therapy. This first meeting gives us both a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. If we decide to go ahead, we will agree to work together for a short period, typically three sessions, before reviewing how it feels from both sides. This process forms a broader view of your experience and background, allowing for a deeper understanding of you, which I term an initial consultation. This allows time for the relationship to begin to form and for you to get a better sense of whether this is the right space for you.
Sometimes I may feel that another therapist with different experience would be better placed to support you. The initial consultation is also a space for me to assess whether I can be of real help to you.
The introductory consultation is charged at £30, payable by BACS within 24 hours of the session. Ongoing sessions are £65 each, and if we choose to continue after the initial few weeks, we will commit to a regular day and time to meet weekly for the duration of your therapy.
