About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Siobhan.
Therapy is all about relationships: the one with your counsellor, family, friends and partners, but most importantly, with yourself. It gives you the space to explore all of these and this often helps restore energy and understanding and enables a process of change that can make you feel better.
Many of the people I work with have spent years putting others first - holding everything together, smoothing things over, or feeling responsible for how those around them feel. Often there’s a history of being treated poorly or not really seen, and over time that can create confusion about what’s ok to need, ask for, or expect. It can leave you anxious, overthinking, or unsure of who you are beneath all the roles you play.
In our sessions, we will take time to understand the patterns behind all that - where they began, how they’ve protected you, and how they might now be keeping you stuck. This isn’t about buzzword phrases such as ‘be positive’ or ‘let go’; it’s about getting curious about what’s really going on underneath, and beginning to rebuild a more honest relationship with yourself.
I am an experienced integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor based in Norwood Junction, SE London.
I offer one-to-one counselling for adults who are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply in need of space to process difficult emotions. As well as my private practice, I also currently work in the NHS (IAPT).
Working as an integrative therapist means that I use my knowledge to draw on a number of therapeutic approaches and apply them to our work, ensuring that you feel fully supported in our sessions together, always adapting to what you need. At the heart of my work is the belief that change happens when we start to see ourselves clearly; when we stop judging, start understanding, and find the courage to live in a way that feels more authentic.
Practice description
I currently work in locations: SE25 & CR2 as well as online to anywhere within the UK making it convenient to fit around your life schedule.
I support people from a wide range of backgrounds and with many different challenges, including:
- Anxiety and Depression
- Low mood or motivation
- Low self-esteem and self-worth
- Trauma
- Addiction and recovery
- Relationship difficulties
- Grief, loss and life transitions
This is a collaborative process, but my practice is grounded in a person-centred approach which means you are front and centre to the work. I will do my best to ensure that we establish a trusting and relaxed relationship from the beginning.
If you are thinking about therapy, or have any questions, I invite you to get in touch for a free 15 minute informal chat which will take place over zoom - or another platform/phonecall if zoom is not available to you - at a time convenient to us both. During this session I can give you an overview of what to expect, and give you the opportunity to tell me a bit about what you would like to get from therapy. If we think we might be a good fit we can arrange a full session and take things from there.
I am committed to ensuring an inclusive, anti-oppressive environment and I warmly welcome everyone regardless of belief; background; identity; heritage and ability.
My first session
First sessions are often nerve-wracking; especially if you are new to therapy. I will do my best to put you at ease, and make you feel as comfortable as possible.
After our introductory call, we will meet in person - or online - for a full 50 mins. During the initial session, we will briefly agree on what we can expect from each other, and I will ask you some questions about your background. This is to give me a broader sense of your concerns and what you hope to gain from therapy. From there, the form-filling can be put to one side and you will have the opportunity to explore in detail whatever it is that is concerning you in much more depth.
Your autonomy is important to me, so we will work at your pace; there is no pressure to talk about anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. My hope is that together, we can co-create a relationship where you feel trusting enough to come as you are. If you're angry, upset, scared, mistrusting - all emotions are welcome with me. You don't need to censor yourself or put on any airs or graces; if you're sweary, it's all good - just be yourself. I create a safe environment where you feel able to unpick difficult thoughts and emotions.
Maybe you have specific issues and a definite idea of what you want to gain from our time - maybe you don't. Very often other 'stuff' comes up as if from nowhere; it's all part of the process.
Get in touch today and take that first step to healing, and feeling closer to the person you deserve to be.
