About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Elle. I'm an experienced therapist, who specialises in working with adults in their 20's and 30's who are feeling stuck.
I originally trained as an actor, which means that sometimes, my therapy approach can lean towards being more creative than others, but any suggestions from me in the therapy room are only ever invitations and we would always work at a pace that worked for you. Having said this, I do see my role as a therapist as an interactive one, meaning that rarely in our sessions would we sit in prolonged silence, if you weren’t sure what to say.
London is a great place to live in lots of ways, but it can come with a load of social and professional pressure. Living here, it can easily feel like you’re not where you 'should' be in one area of your life or another. It can also be a place where it feels like people don’t always have the time or head space to properly listen to you, when they ask how you are.
Therapy should be a place where once a week, you can talk to someone who will listen intently to what you have to say and give you the opportunity to really make space for yourself, with the support of someone who is trained in resourcing you to deepen your self awareness. This often comes from asking open questions, offering new perspectives and gently challenging narratives that you hold for yourself that might be holding you somewhere you no longer belong.
Practice description
During our therapy sessions, it's my role not only to listen intently to what you're bringing, but to highlight, or reflect back to you anything I may notice that could be useful to our work. We will work towards a deeper understanding of the self, through me asking open questions relevant to what you are bringing, sharing observations on how certain relationships or topics are discussed and also doing exercises or 'mini experiments' to work through certain challenges.
The most important part of therapy is that we create a relationship in which there is trust as it is this that enables us to explore feelings and challenges, to create positive change. Sometimes, I will suggest some creative exercises if I feel that they might be useful, but we will always discuss if this is something that you want to do or not and in our sessions, it is always, absolutely your choice.
My first session
During our first therapy session, we would gain a clear understanding of what you want to get from therapy, so that we could use the time as intentionally and meaningfully as possible. We would also use our first session for me to get to know your background, your relationships and your culture, as the more I understand about you and your story so far, the more equipped I will be to understand how we might work together most effectively. You have complete autonomy to bring whatever you wish to our sessions and I believe that no detail, thought or feeling is insignificant, or 'smaller' than any other.
