About me and my therapy practice

Are you seeking counselling that feels safe, supportive, and attuned to your whole self, offered in a way that’s less clinical and more human?

At Lumina Counselling Kent, you’ll find a calm and compassionate space rooted in empathy and acceptance. I’m Louise, a person-centred counsellor and holistic healer and I offer a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, equality, and genuine care. There’s no pressure to have it all figured out. You’ll be met exactly as you are.

You may be feeling anxious, stuck, or unsure where to begin. Perhaps you’ve tried counselling before and were left feeling judged, overwhelmed, or even re-traumatised. Maybe you were encouraged to open up too soon, before you truly felt safe – and that experience has stayed with you.

I understand how vulnerable it can feel to seek help, especially when past experiences have been difficult. My own journey through anxiety, trauma, and bereavement has shaped the way I work. I offer a respectful, collaborative, and holistic approach to therapy, one where you set the pace and your voice leads the way.

If this is your first time considering counselling, I know how daunting it can be. Not knowing what to expect can feel overwhelming. That’s why I work in a way that’s gentle, clear, and attuned to your needs, always holding space for you to feel safe, seen, and supported.

Practice description

Together, we’ll explore what’s going on for you at your pace. Whether through gentle conversation, creative tools, or body-based practices like Reiki, grounding techniques, and nervous system support, everything is tailored to support your emotional, mental, and energetic well being.

Alongside my private practise I also volunteer with the Rising Sun Domestic Abuse Service in Canterbury which gives me the privilege of supporting women as they navigate recovery after abuse, an experience that deeply informs how I hold space. It continually reinforces what I intuitively understand, "the body keeps the score". Trauma isn’t just held in our thoughts; it lives in our bodies, our nervous systems, and our sense of safety. This is why I believe talking therapy alone may not always be enough. I weave body-based and energy-aware practices into my approach to support healing on every level.

I also bring both personal and professional experience of neurodivergence, which helps me offer attuned, flexible support to those who may have felt misunderstood, overwhelmed, or expected to mask parts of themselves in other spaces. Here, you’re welcome just as you are.

My first session

I offer a free 20-minute consultation by phone or video call. This is a gentle space to ask questions, talk about what you're looking for, and get a sense of how it might feel to work together, there’s no pressure or obligation to continue.

If you decide to begin therapy, I’ll email you a counselling contract in advance. This outlines the practical side of the work, including confidentiality, boundaries, and session structure. We’ll talk it through together in your first full session and create a negotiated agreement that feels right for you.

That first session is a chance for you to begin at your own pace, there’s no expectation to share anything before you feel ready. I’ll invite you to talk about what’s brought you to therapy, what you might be hoping for, and what kind of support feels most helpful.

If you're feeling very anxious or emotionally overwhelmed, some clients find it helpful to begin with a Reiki session before moving into talking therapy. This can offer a gentle starting point to regulate the nervous system, settle the body, and build trust in the therapeutic space. You're welcome to discuss this option in our consultation.

Whether we begin with conversation or calming energy work, the aim is to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and gently met just as you are.
