About me and my therapy practice

Think therapists all wear cardigans and say 鈥渉ow does that make you feel?鈥 Think again鈥

Forget 鈥渉olding space鈥 and 鈥渇inding your inner child鈥濃擨鈥檒l meet you in the actual chaos of life and loss, until you find your way back to something that feels like you.

That means being real, in all the messiness and chaos that this being human brings.

That means me being real too. That鈥檚 where the magic is. If you鈥檝e had a bad experience of counselling, that鈥檚 because your counsellor was trying to be someone they weren鈥檛. That鈥檚 never going to work.

I do wear cardigans, but with a band tee and Doc Martens. And we鈥檒l talk like humans. No therapy cliches, no affirmations. Real talk, probably a bit sweary at times.

Because let鈥檚 face it 鈥 life can be a f*ing miracle, but it can also be a f*ing minefield...

Heartbreak. Family drama. Big decisions. Days when your brain just won鈥檛 cooperate. One minute you鈥檙e fine, the next you鈥檙e crying in the cereal aisle of Tesco because the wrong (right) song started playing and you weren鈥檛 prepared.

Life happens, and it rarely sends a warning alert.

And then there鈥檚 grief 鈥 the guest nobody wants, but who keeps showing up anyway.

Sometimes grief is loud and obvious鈥攕omeone you love dies and your whole world changes overnight. Other times it sneaks in quietly: the end of a relationship, a big life shift, the version of life you thought you鈥檇 have slowly slipping away. It doesn鈥檛 always wear black or come with sympathy cards. But it鈥檚 still grief.

No two people experience grief the same way. And here鈥檚 the truth: you鈥檙e not meant to 鈥済et over it鈥 or 鈥渕ove on.鈥 But it can become something that reshapes you, rather than flattens you.

We can鈥檛 dodge the hard stuff, and frankly, trying to isn鈥檛 doing us any favours. But we can work out how to deal with it without completely losing the plot. That鈥檚 the point of therapy.

Practice description

You don鈥檛 need to be in crisis to come to therapy. You just need to be human. Stuck, sad, fed up, overwhelmed, lost, tired of repeating the same old loops鈥攊t all counts.

You know that drawer full of old charger cables, all horribly tangled up and messy? Yeah, that鈥檚 you (and me).

In our sessions, we鈥檒l:

鈥 work on untangling all of that crap that鈥檚 been tying you in knots

鈥 look at how your past may be playing an uninvited role in your present

鈥 identify your needs (yes, you鈥檙e allowed to have them) and how to meet them

鈥 spot patterns鈥攊n your relationships, your reactions, and your choices

鈥 explore what actually matters to you and how to live more in line with that

鈥 get curious about what you鈥檙e feeling鈥攏ot just try to 鈥渇ix鈥 it

鈥 find ways to cope that actually help, without turning your whole life upside down or forcing you to start journalling in a meadow (unless that鈥檚 your thing鈥攏o judgement)

I don鈥檛 fit you to some mysterious therapeutic blueprint, I don鈥檛 have worksheets for you as homework, and I can鈥檛 tell you ahead of time exactly what to expect, because every session is going to be different. Sometimes we will sit and talk, sometimes we might come at things from a creative angle. Some sessions you will walk out feeling lighter, some sessions you may ask yourself what on earth you are putting yourself through this for. I鈥檒l be there for all the ups, downs and messiness, gently guiding you and keeping you as safe as possible.

I believe you already have the good stuff inside you鈥攜ou just might need some help finding it under all the stress, expectations, and ancient coping mechanisms. I鈥檝e lived through the messy stuff; I know what it means to rebuild from the inside out. I鈥檓 not about fixing you, because you鈥檙e not broken. But I can help you make sense of what鈥檚 changed, and find a way forward, so you can start to thrive, not just survive.
