About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Lisa, and I am a registered Íø±¬ÃÅ counsellor with a person-centred core. I know first-hand how difficult it can be to reach out for support and trust someone enough to talk openly about our thoughts, feelings and the challenges that life can bring us. Taking that first step is huge, so I’m here to offer you my support  without any judgement. I will always provide a very welcoming, safe and confidential space for you to feel secure enough to do this, one step at a time.

I know that one approach does not necessarily fit all, so I may from time to time integrate a range of different techniques and approaches to suit your individual needs.

I truly believe that you are your own expert and by working together I will support & help you to navigate your current situation. I can help you to overcome your worries and/ or problems and begin to feel more confident to ‘be you’ as the answers are hidden somewhere within you, which given time, space, understanding & exploration, will enable you to feel more self-aware, self-heal & empowered to reach your desired potential.

Practice description

I am trained to accompany you as we unpick, explore and work through your thoughts, feelings, emotions and challenges together.

I have extensive experience with all aspects of loss & grief (death, loss of identity/self, loss of role/career, loss of pets, loss of relationships etc).

Alongside working in my private practise, I also work part-time in a hospice as a bereavement support worker with both individuals and groups. I have also worked face to face with clients within a prison setting, dealing with very varied, complex and challenging issues. I also have experience working closely with both victims and perpetrators of Domestic Abuse in a weekly focus group. I have also experience of working with individuals with autism/ADHA , relationship issues and I'm currently undergoing training to support and understand individuals who present within the LGBTQ+ communities.

I feel that more importantly though I have been through counselling myself on more than one occasion and know how life changing the experience can be if you find the right counsellor who ‘just gets it’ as this completely validates your feelings, and enables you to build a trusting and very safe relationship, which in turn facilitates confidence and real honesty within the relationship to be brave enough to explore and express your true feelings.

My first session

An initial free 15 minute telephone conversation will allow us both to  decide if we feel we can work together.

I will then schedule you in for your first counselling session with me.

During the first session an assessment will be carried out.  This ensures I have your correct personal details, emergency contact details and a more thorough background of what's going on for you right now.

We will also discuss how important a commitment to therapy is and alongside this the issues you are hoping to explore and  any personal goals you may wish to work towards achieving within your therapy sessions.
