About me and my therapy practice
I am a fully accredited Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and Chartered Psychologist. I provide one to one, face to face, talking, play or arts-based therapy for children, adolescents and young adults in Central Cambridge. I aim to create a safe, nurturing space where you or your child can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts, feelings and experiences. Some people prefer to put their thoughts and feelings into words, while some express themselves more freely through the use of the creative arts. Paint and clay can encourage artistic and emotional expression, or we might use puppets or sandtrays to explore the inner world in a way that feels safe and playful. Often young children enjoy playing games to foster a sense of connection.
In addition to arts based therapy, I am also trained in more structured talking approaches like Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which can be helpful for developing practical skills to manage thoughts and emotions, particularly in teenagers.
My background in child and adolescent psychology helps me to understand the challenges and strengths particular to young people. Using these resources above and an empathic approach, I am able to offer a space where you or your child can feel truly heard and understood.
Practice description
My focus is on providing a safe and nurturing space for young people, from early childhood through to early adulthood. My approach is flexible, incorporating creative arts therapies alongside more structured methods like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), depending on what feels right for you or your child.
I understand that every child and young person brings a diverse set of experiences, and it’s important to work together to find an approach that feels comfortable. My aim is create an environment where difficult thoughts and emotions can be explored in a way that feels supportive and safe.
Over the years, I have worked through charities, schools and in private practice with young people facing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, selective mutism, OCD, developmental trauma and issues with anger or eating. I also have extensive experience working with these issues in young people on the autism spectrum, as well as those with ADHD/ADD. Whatever the concern may be, my goal is to offer compassionate support to help navigate these difficulties.
In addition to my therapeutic work, I am a qualified special needs teacher and have fifteen years’ experience as a university lecturer in clinical psychology. I am an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and a chartered developmental psychologist through the British Psychological Society (BPS) and I adhere to the ethical standards of both organisations.
