About me and my therapy practice

My personal therapy journey and training involved exploring identity and culture. Alongside the challenges of navigating these layered realities. Therapy, something seen as taboo within these, was a challenge in itself to consider and overcome.

Growing up felt like trying to exist within these layered realities.

What was acceptable changed back and forth: A set of conditions at home another just beyond the front door. I was suspended in the space between trying to find my footing.

Throughout my training, I sought to explore topics that for the longest time felt beyond questioning for me.

Part of this was to identify and separate who I truly was from the   â€˜I should be’ or ‘I am supposed to be’ learned thoughts. To then explore where these learned thoughts had come from.

Practice description

I offer a counselling space grounded in the person centred approach based on the insights above, where you are the expert of your experience.

I hold the belief that you are capable of processing what you are going through based on your own values and outlook on life.

Sometimes, to begin that journey back to ourselves, we need a space to speak our minds freely.

A space with breathing room, to just think and feel.

Your thoughts and feelings don’t need to be resolved or understood to be expressed and heard.

You, just as you are, will be acknowledged and welcomed in the space we share, as client and counsellor.

My first session

At the start of our first session, I’ll check in with you; including whether you have any questions or amendments regarding our contract or privacy policy.

In line with my approach to counselling, this part of the process is collaborative: your input matters, and we’ll shape the frame of our work together.

The first session can be a time to settle in. You might feel clear and ready to begin, knowing what you want to bring into the space.

Or you might notice a quiet hesitation within, unsure of where to start.

After all, we are two people meeting for the first time, and that can bring its own dynamic.

You might find yourself wondering if what you want to share is too much, or not enough.

Or you might not feel ready to speak at all.

Whatever comes up or doesn’t come up, it is absolutely okay.

At the heart of therapy is the trust between us as client and counsellor. As that trust begins to form, you may find that you feel more at ease to share, not because you are expected to, but because the space begins to feel safer, more yours, as that is what it is: your space.

There is no rush, no expectation. The counselling room is your space to speak, pause, reflect, or sit in silence. We move at your pace, in your rhythm, with care.
