About me and my therapy practice
Psychodynamic therapy can help if you have been coping with difficult, sometimes complicated and overwhelming feelings and behaviours and you need someone to talk to who will listen to you without judgement. It might be that something intangible just doesn’t feel right or you feel stressed, anxious or low and are finding it hard to live your life the way you want to. You might feel stuck with difficult thoughts or habits that are hard to shift. Perhaps you feel empty. It may be that you have had a traumatic experience recently or a long time ago that you need help processing.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a form of psychoanalytic therapy. The aim is to find the heart of your discomfort, which can emerge slowly and sometimes unexpectedly over time. In regular, weekly or twice weekly sessions we think carefully together about your life, your thoughts and emotions, identifying patterns and feelings that you may not have been aware of. It can lead to an understanding of how events and relationships in your past might be affecting you in the here and now. It isn’t always easy; sometimes we will face things that are hard to look at.
I provide a reliable, confidential space where we can safely and gently think about what’s on your mind. I invite you to talk freely about anything that comes to mind and we see where that takes us. This approach isn't rushed; it can be open-ended if you choose. I won’t offer advice or coping mechanisms, which may feel uncomfortable at first; instead we try to work through your feelings and process them. I listen very carefully to you, holding psychoanalytic theory in mind in order to try to find our way towards understanding without judgement. This in turn can lead to a deeper, long-term change; a chance to understand yourself better which can help foster a feeling of inner strength, acceptance and a sense of peace over time.
Practice description
I trained as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and have experience in military settings and in the charity sector. I am DBS checked, and adhere to the standards and ethics laid out by the Íø±¬ÃÅ and my accrediting body, the BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council). I am a member of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists.
I have a dedicated, private and comfortable practice room located in Collingbourne Kingston, 15 minutes south of Marlborough, 20 minutes south-west of Hungerford, 20 minutes north of Andover and 12 minutes east of Pewsey. There is free parking directly outside. Once we have arranged a time to meet, I will send you the address and directions to my practice room.

My first session
I offer a free initial telephone call of around 5 to 10 minutes where we can have a brief chat, and we can see if we can find a time to meet.
Before therapy begins I will offer a minimum of two initial consultation sessions which last around 90 minutes. I may suggest we have more than two consultations to give us time to understand if this kind of therapy is the right fit, and to see how the therapy sits with you between the sessions before we commit to regular sessions together. Sometimes the opportunity to talk and think about your life in the consultation sessions can feel like enough for you for now.
If we agree to begin therapy together after the consultation sessions, we will meet at the same time and place each week.
