About me and my therapy practice

I鈥檓 Emile (he/him), an integrative psychotherapist with over 12 years鈥 experience supporting adults, young people, couples, and families in public and private mental health services in both the UK and Canada.

I work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and those times in life when you feel stuck, directionless, or overwhelmed.

My work is collaborative, creative, and tailored to each person I see. Working in an integrative way means I draw on different therapeutic models depending on your needs and preferences. I have particular experience with trauma-focused therapies such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and I also integrate Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Psychodynamic ways of working. Whatever approach we take, my aim is to help you safely explore and connect with your deeper feelings and needs that may be hard to access.

I believe the foundation of effective therapy is a strong, trusting relationship. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore your experiences, develop greater self-understanding, and discover new ways of relating to yourself and others.

Alongside my therapy practice, I provide supervision to therapists and trainees, and have held teaching positions at Goldsmiths, University of London, and the University of British Columbia.

Practice description

I hold the following training/qualifications:
  • MA in Social Work
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy

In addition to my foundational training, I hold specialist training in: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Densitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and Families (EFFT), Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

My first session

I provide sessions online and in person (Hackney, London), and offer a free consultation by phone or video call to explore whether we feel like a good fit.

I offer both short-term, goal-focused therapy and longer-term exploratory work, depending on what feels most helpful for you.

Working 'integratively' means I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to create a way of working that鈥檚 tailored to your individual needs and preferences. I have particular expertise in trauma-focused therapies such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also integrate Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), and other approaches. Regardless of the approach we use, my focus is always on helping you access and work through core emotions, which can often be blocked or obscured, in a way that feels safe and constructive.

I place great importance on building a strong, collaborative, and trusting therapeutic relationship, as I believe this forms the foundation for change. My aim is to create a space where you can explore your experiences, identify your strengths, understand yourself more deeply, and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others.

Alongside my therapy work, I also provide clinical supervision to other therapists, social workers, and trainees, drawing on the same integrative and relational principles that underpin my approach with clients.

Practice description

I hold training and experience in a number of psychotherapy modalities. Each tends to have a different focus or goal. Together, we will find an approach (or combination of them) that best suits your needs and reasons for coming to therapy. It's not necessary for you to know about these ways of working before coming to therapy, but if you are interested, there is some further information below:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): A gentle, exploratory approach that helps you understand the different 鈥減arts鈥 of yourself, why they developed, and how to heal from earlier experiences 鈥 including trauma.

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT): Helps you connect with and make sense of your core emotions and needs in a creative and expressive way, especially those you might avoid, suppress, or misunderstand.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): A structured method for reprocessing difficult  & traumatic memories so they no longer cause the same distress.

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: Explores how past and present experiences 鈥 including unconscious patterns 鈥 shape the way you see yourself and relate to others.

  • Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT): Strengthens your ability to understand your own thoughts and feelings, and to make sense of what might be going on in the minds of others.

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): A practical, skills-based approach for managing intense emotions, navigating relationships, and finding effective solutions to life鈥檚 challenges.

I offer a free 20 minute consultation (by phone or video call) prior to working together.
