About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Andy. I understand that selecting a therapist can feel like a difficult decision and big step, so it is important to find someone you can feel comfortable in the presence of. To help with this decision, and see if I’m the right fit, I’ll share a little about me and how I work, and what you can expect in our potential sessions together.
My style is warm, collaborative and compassionate. I aim to create and provide a safe and genuine therapeutic relationship where you can feel heard and supported and make sense of your world.
I work as an integrative therapist, meaning I draw upon different approaches to suit my clients’ needs rather than use one particular modality. I will therefore get to know my clients in order to decide the best course of treatment. My main foundation is humanistic counselling, and incorporate techniques from Gestalt, Person-Centred and TA Therapies. This will allow us to explore the here and now, but also deeper patterns and relationships that may be having an influence on your current difficulties.
In addition to this, I also work within adverse childhood experiences and inner child dynamics, helping you recognise how early experiences may echo within your adult life. Together we can aim to build awareness and create healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. Alongside therapeutic skills, I also bring my background in humanities and social sciences into help examine values and personal philosophy as part of the journey.
I offer both online sessions (anywhere in the UK) and face-to-face sessions from a therapy room in Wolverhampton. In-person sessions are offered in a calm and welcoming environment where there’s always a tea or coffee if you’d like! I work with an array of different presenting issues (see below). If you are unsure about whether I'm suited to working with you, feel free to email and I’ll be glad to offer guidance and help you work out if I can meet your needs, or alternatively suggest next steps.
Practice description
My practice is based in Wolverhampton, at Base 25, which is a vibrant community hub offering therapy for young people and adults. There is a reception on arrival where you will be warmly greeted with seating and a café attached, you’ll be signed in confidentially and I will meet you to walk together to the therapy room.
My practice is built upon creating a space where my clients feel comfortable in exploring whatever they are bringing to the session, whether it’s anxiety, low mood, relationship challenges, self-esteem, identity questions, or a desire for personal growth. Clients will often come to when they are struggling to make sense of how their past experience is shaping their present, or when they need steps to move forward from feeling stuck.
The sessions will be of a steady pace, guided by your needs. Sometimes we may need to look at the presenting issues in the here and now, other times we may look at past experiences and how they are affecting you in the now. As sessions progress, I will introduce more reflective exercises, creative techniques and inner-child work, to aid the journey.
I believe therapy is best as a partnership, meaning we will check in regularly to make sure our sessions remain of help and still have meaning for you. My role within the space is to hold it safely and create a positive environment where you can be free to express yourself without fear of judgement and to develop the insights and tools you need.
I also work as a Lecturer in Counselling Studies, supporting adults to train to become therapists. This enables me to keep my own practice ethical and up-to-date, as I continue my own growth alongside both my clients and students.
