About me and my therapy practice
As a counsellor, my aim is to help you to know yourself more fully. This can involve identifying ways in which you might be stuck, repeating old patterns that no longer serve you. There may be narratives that you have about yourself that don't ring true. Through this process of exploration you can learn to be more fully present in your life and to deepen your relationships with yourself and those around you.
In my experience, just to talk, to voice and acknowledge pain and difficulty can go some way toward making positive change, and I hope to facilitate this and take it further. This might involve giving voice to parts of yourself that are hurt, locked away or self-defeating, and seeing how these parts manifest physically or in day-to-day life.
I offer an reflective and compassionate space to explore where you are now, and how you came to that place. I know this can be a daunting undertaking, often involving connecting with painful emotions. I will support and guide you as we work together based on your own unique experience. My role as counsellor is to listen, to reflect and sometimes to challenge; the work we do is created together, counsellor and client working with each other in the here and now. There is no right way, just the way that is right for you
I am open to working with adults of all identities, backgrounds, ages and beliefs. I am aware of the challenges we face in this time, of the anxiety and uncertainty that is ever present, and the real systemic obstacles there are to the wellbeing of many of us; I welcome exploration of this in the counselling room.
I offer a free initial online meeting, to talk about what brings you to counselling and what I can bring to you.
Practice description
My training is in Gestalt counselling. Put simply, this means working with the client in the here and now based on what the client brings, whether past trauma or current difficulties; memories, thoughts or feelings.
Gestalt is a dialogic approach, meaning that the work takes the relationship between the counsellor and client into account, bringing attention to ways in which it sheds light on the client's self-process.
There is an understanding in Gestalt that the self is not fixed. It is a process, and a process always in relationship with an other, whether that might be a partner, a job, family, a past experience or an aspect of one's personality. The aim of Gestalt is to bring awareness to the parts of this process, and identify ways one might be stuck, or repeat patterns of self-sabotage; through this can come greater self-awareness, self-responsibility and the possibility of change.
