About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Alexandra Bishop, a MÍø±¬ÃÅ Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
My practice offers a warm and supportive space where you can feel safe, heard, and valued for your individual experiences and emotions.
Midlife often brings the challenges of balancing parenting, work, family and finances, while shouldering the ongoing mental and emotional load. You may find yourself supporting children, holding everything together at home and at work, and noticing the strain this places on your own wellbeing and on your relationships.
I work with women who are experiencing stress, anxiety, low mood, or a sense of being overwhelmed, often while navigating the challenges of parenting, hormone changes, work burnout, changes within relationships, and the impact of past experiences that may resurface at this stage of life.I can offer a safe and understanding space where you can pause & reflect, and begin to find new ways forward.
Through our work together, you can:
* Explore the pressures you face and develop ways to manage them effectively.
* Build confidence in yourself and the choices you make.
* Navigate life’s challenges and relationships whilst staying grounded.
* Reconnect with your needs, values, and priorities.
* Understand your past to work towards a stronger present.
I offer therapy in person in York, by phone, or online - so you can choose what feels most comfortable. An introductory telephone conversation is available before you decide to book a session.
Practice description
As a relational, person-centered therapist, I prioritise building a trusting and compassionate space, where you feel accepted and heard. This foundation allows us to explore and better understand your thoughts and feelings about yourself. I aim to cultivate self-compassion, authenticity, and deeper connections with yourself and others.
My approach is based on the importance of relationships, how we relate to others, how we see ourselves, and how those patterns can shape the way we experience life.
My first session
In our first session, I aim to create a safe and welcoming space for you to share your concerns. Before we meet, I ask clients to complete a brief intake form and initial assessment. This helps me understand your background, current challenges, and what you hope to achieve from therapy. During the session, we review your responses together, discuss your goals, and explore the best approach to support you. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and understand how therapy works. The initial session is about understanding your needs and planning the next steps in a way that feels comfortable for you.
