About me and my therapy practice
I am an Integrative Relational Psychotherapist. Although the basis of my approach is relational I also integrate Gestalt therapy, Family systems ideas, Acceptance and Commitment therapy (A.C.T.) and concepts from Transactional analysis. I am a trauma informed therapist and enjoy working with those who class themselves as neurodiverse.
There are many reasons that can lead us to decide on need for counselling or psychotherapy:
Feeling stressed and unable to cope
Dealing with unresolved issues from the past
Feeling stuck in poor relational patterns
Facing a difficult transition
Coping with major life events
Trying to support others with mental health problems.
Not being able to see a way forward.
Low self esteem
Anger issues
Low mood and feelings of hopelessness
Issues related to sexuality
Therapy can often help support and encourage you in these circumstances. It may also help you develop understanding, self-awareness and discover your own inner resources.
I have previously worked for 36 years in the N.H.S. as a Speech and Language therapist and also continue to work as a Teacher of the Alexander Technique which is a holistic approach focussing on mind/body integration.
I prefer to work face to face but will also work online if that is not possible.
I mainly work in Romsey except on Thursdays when I work in Southampton.
Practice description
My aim is to explore together the issues you bring in a safe non-judgemental environment and support you to find a way forward.
Many of us have issues in our lives that make us feel ‘stuck’ and stop us living the lives we want to live. This can be related to situations that have occurred recently or more long-standing issues going back to childhood. Our usual coping mechanisms may not be enough and the people we have relied on in the past for support may not be able to help with our current issues.
As Lao Tzu says:
‘’A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’’
That first step may include coming to therapy which can feel a very big first step to make and often requires huge courage. We know when something ‘isn’t right’ and we need to make a change to live the life we want to live.
I look forward to meeting you if this feels the right next step for you to make.
My first session
The first session will partially be an exploration of whether we feel we can work together and I am the right therapist for you. I quite understand if you do not want to commit to further sessions until the first session has taken place.
