About me and my therapy practice

Counselling

Looking for a counsellor can be a scary and daunting process and asking for help can be one of the hardest things we do. I understand that it can feel scary to reach out, especially wondering what other people might think if you do.

I know that some things can be difficult to talk about with friends and family and this can leave us feeling isolated. Talking to a counsellor can provide you with the opportunity to explore these experiences and continue to grow.

Counselling can provide a space, free from judgement, where you can talk to someone who truly listens to your concerns. Counselling is a journey, an exploration of these concerns and how they may be influencing your life.

I encourage you to get in touch if you would like to know more about counselling and whether it might be right for you.

About Me

I am a friendly and approachable person who is here to listen. My aim is to provide a space for you to feel heard, understood and not judged. Together, we can explore how you are feeling, discuss your concerns and worries and bring positive changes to your life.

Supporting our frontline emergency service workers, and staff, is something that I am very passionate about. You've dedicated your life to protecting others, now it's time to prioritise your own wellbeing. Whether you're battling the aftermath of an incident, facing challenges in your personal life, or simply need someone to talk to, I'm here to support you.

I have been a police officer myself and would encourage anyone in the blue light community to reach out when they need to. I have also conducted research into the emergency services and counselling, and spent time within the different branches discussing how support could be improved.

Practice description

How I work…

I am a person-centred counsellor. The person-centred approach does just that - it puts you at the heart of the therapeutic relationship. You are free to bring any issues that are concerning you to our sessions and we will explore these at your pace. Our sessions will be non-directive, which means that I won’t tell you what to talk about or what to do. Instead, I will provide a space where we can explore the issues that are concerning you - together. As a person-centred therapist, I believe that every person is able to achieve their full potential but sometimes certain life experiences can get in the way.

Counselling settings…

Face-to-Face - is the more traditional approach. These sessions will be in-person, in a relaxed, indoor, environment.

Online/phone - if in-person counselling is not for you or is not practical then maybe online or telephone sessions would be more beneficial. Online sessions will be conducted over an online meeting platform. Or maybe telephone sessions suit you best, we can arrange that.

Outdoor - if sitting opposite a counsellor isn't for you then maybe outdoor sessions might be better. These sessions can be done either while walking, or sitting outside in the fresh air, if that is more suitable.

What happens next…

If you would like to explore working with me further, please arrange a free initial consultation. This will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have and to see if I am the right counsellor for you. There will be no obligation to book any further sessions.

If you decide that you want to work with me, you can book in your first session. During this session we will discuss what you would like to focus on and how you would like to work (face-to-face, online, phone, outdoors). I will explain how I work and discuss the important things (like confidentiality and privacy), you are welcome to ask any questions.

There will be no pressure from me, at any stage to book any future sessions. I am aware that starting counselling can feel overwhelming, you may wish to take some time between each of these stages to consider what we have discussed.
