About me and my therapy practice

Welcome and thank you for visiting Green Tulip Counselling. My name is Lisa Mackenzie, and I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor offering face to face therapy sessions within Amersham, Buckinghamshire, as well as online therapy for those further afield.

There can be times in our life when our thoughts, feelings or behaviour may feel overwhelming or distressing. You may be struggling with difficult emotions about yourself, your relationships, or how you experience the world.

At Green Tulip Counselling I offer a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space where we can explore what has brought you to counselling and how we can work together towards meaningful change.

The green tulip symbolizes new beginnings and hope, which reflects the heart of my practice.

I am committed to providing a welcoming and affirming space for people from diverse backgrounds and identities and I am mindful how diversity and difference can have an impact on our lived experiences.

Practice description

I am a trained psychotherapeutic counsellor, having studied at the Metanoia Institute in London. I work within a humanistic framework, which means I believe in your innate capacity for growth, self-awareness, and positive change. My approach is integrative, drawing from three main modalities.

Person- Centred Therapy – Your unique experiences, needs and goals will guide our sessions, with the focus on building a trusting and empathic relationship. Rather than giving advice or directing you, my role is to help you discover your own answers and build confidence in your ability to navigate life’s challenges.

Transactional Analysis (TA) – TA helps us explore how past experiences and relational patterns may influence your present life. By understanding these dynamics, we can explore which patterns may no longer serve you, and work toward healthier relationships and self-perception.

Gestalt Therapy – This helps us focus on the present moment, exploring your emotions here and now and understanding how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours connect. This can encourage us to find new ways to respond to challenges.

Having experienced counselling myself, I understand how powerful it can be to have a safe space where you are truly heard. This personal journey has shaped the way I work, ensuring that I offer my clients a supportive, compassionate and non-judgmental environment.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked within a range of industries, including hospitality, motorsport and education. These diverse experiences have enriched my understanding of people and their unique challenges. 

My first session

The first session may involve exploring what has brought you to counselling in the first place, how have you been feeling lately and exploring any thoughts or experiences that have been on your mind. It is also a chance for both of us to sense if we can work together. I will explain my counselling background and work ethics, the importance of confidentiality and any contracting requirements such as session times, payment requirements and the cancellation policy.

It is important that you find the right therapist for you. Throughout our sessions together I will encourage us to reflect and review how we are experiencing working together.
